Antoinette Hildebrandt's Travels
Today we have climb over 2200 steps! (That doesn't include smaller staircases and any walking we did). We started with the Duomo; there are 6 areas to see. First we climbed to the top of the dome - 471 steps each way. Then we went inside the Cathedral and the crypt followed by the Baptistry. We then tackled the Bell Tower - 414 steps each way and finally had a quick look around the museum. The Duomo is spectacular but I was disgusted by the amount of graffiti that covered the walls of this beautiful building. The crypt and the museum included the reliquaries that hold the bones of various saints and individuals. The museum even had part of "John the Baptist's " jawbone. Our next stop was the Palazzo Vecchio. We wandered through the "old palace" and then we climbed the bell tower - 223 steps each way. By then we'd had enough of steps and were all worn out so we headed back to our apartment. After a rest, John and I headed down to the train station to book train tickets to Venice tomorrow.
