7 Day UK tour - Part 5:
Our final night of the tour was spent in the town of York, in the mid-north of England. After checking into our B&B at about 7pm that night, we wandered into town to check things out and grab some food. We came across an awesome Vegan/Vegetarian Cafe that did a lot of AMAZING food, including some vegetarian sliders (america style mini burgers) which Ant absolutely destroyed, and perfect coffee and walnut cake which Nat inhaled! After a brief walk through the heart of the old town, we headed back to our rooms for the night.
The next day we rose at about 8:30 and after breakfast we headed into town again for about 4-5 hours exploring before the 3-4 trek back to London and reality. We began with a walk around most of the old town along the top of the entirely in tact medieval castle walls. The views of the town and river were great and we felt it was a really good way to get an idea of the town, especially to imagine how much stronger their defences would have been back in the day with the vantage point that the walls gave all around the town.
We ended up in the south-end of town, where we managed to once again make use of our English Heritage memberships, and got into Clifford's Tower for free. This was basically just the main strategic tower of the city castle that was used by the occupants of the town throughout it's history.
After another visit to our new favourite cafe for a delicious lunch, we wandered back to the bus and jumped on for the drive back to London. Watching Hot Fuzz on the bus back helped us forget for a couple of hours longer that another amazing holiday was winding up, and we arrived back home in London at around 7pm on Saturday night!
Another great holiday to add to an amazing year!
