Anski around the World
Wohoo, I have officially arrived to Bangkok! The flight went ok but was veeeeeery looooong....I had two seven-hour flights and a 4-hour wait between them in Dubai so am slightly knackered now. And confused as well! My plane arrived at 8pm local time, of which I was very much aware of, but at some point I started thinking it was morning already, and spent most of the bus journey thinking why the hell it is still pitch black here at 10 in the morning...
Heh, they nearly didn't let me in the country in the first place! On the plane you have to fill in a paper where you give your name and passport number etc and explain why you are coming to Thailand. Also you need the address where you are staying which I didn't have coz I didn't have time to sort out my accommodation before I left, so I didn't have a hotel booked or anything. The man behind the desk was not very happy about it, he had apparently just started and hence not used to dealing with stupid foreigners lol! I explained him that I'm going to Malaysia already tomorrow and then staying at a friends place and blah blah, poor man looked really distressed but let me go anyway.
Because I didn't have a place to stay, I used my guidebook to find one, and very surprisingly even managed to get in the right bus from the airport. The area where I am staying is called something like Banglamphoo and is also known as 'backpacker ghetto', meaning the area is full of places to stay. I haven't actually seen much of the city yet and I'm leaving to Malaysia tomorrow but me and Isa will come backin a few days time to explore Bangkok more (or I'll be exploring and she's gonna be yawning coz she's probably done everything already about a billion times lol).
So what's happening next? The thing is, my friend Isabelle is in Singapore now, and I'm on my way there to meet up with her. I could have simply flown to Singapore (there's lots of cheap flights between major Asian cities available) but when I searched for information before coming here, I found out that it's also possible to take this journey by train in three sperate trips, first from Bangkok to Butterworth (in Malaysia), from Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur (in Malaysia) and then from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Altogether this will take over 40 hours, but the journey has been timetabelled so that most of it is during night time. Surely flying would have been a bit easier but I love traveling on a train and it's a bit more exciting as well! Plus I get to stop in a couple of places in Malaysia on the way which is cool.
According to the website the train from Bangkok to Butterworth should leave around 2 pm so I might just go and hang around the station around noon hoping for the best (assuming I will find my way in the station in the first place, on the map it looks like a walking distance from here but I'm not sure if I wanna risk getting completely lost and missing the train...)
Anyway, I need food and sleep now.
Peace love and pancakes,
Anski
