So today's the day! Got up and had breakfast at 8. Got picked up by the pick up truck at 9.
There was only one other lady on the pick up called val who was about 65! She was travelling by herself! We ended up sticking with her all day! There was supposed to be 9 people on the trip but the other 6 people didn't show up!
Drove 20 minutes to the Nam Song River which is part of the Mekong River. Got out and had a kayaking lesson from Kham. Hit a guy over the head with my paddle! Fabulous start!
As there was only 3 of us we merged groups with a group of about 30 Koreans! They are the funniest people ever! All they do is laugh and scream!
Me and Michael shared a kayak and I went at the front! But god knows me and Michael don't make a good team and everyone always says we argue like a married couple! It's hilarious though!
Literally kayaked 5 minutes till we got to a Laos village.
Laos is absolutely beautiful! There is mountains covered with trees everywhere and a lot of countryside. We walked through a couple of villages and rice fields until we got to a village were the caves are.
We left our bags and hopped on a tube as we are caving underwater! A tube is the inner of a tractor tyre like a big rubber ring. The water was absolutely freezing! We all went in one by one and held onto a rope that was attached all the way along.
We all got head torches given to us as it is pitch black in the cave and there is bats! Great! All I can see is me emerging from the cave with 12.3 bats tangled in my hair!
I didn't even see any bats! We were caving for about an hour! It was beautiful inside! There was some rapids though and I kept getting washed away! Anyway at one point we had to walk through and carry our tubes and clumsy me fell over in one of the rapids and lost a flip flop!
So there I am, with michael in the middle of a deep dark cave searching for a flip flop! As we have matching IQ's that add up to the intelligence of a gold fish we didn't think it was a good idea to search by ourselves for long! So I now own 1 flip and no flops!
The Koreans scream so much! We thought the cave was going to come down! They were all about 20 and literally all the girls screamed non stop. Shut the smeg up!
Came out of the cave with all our limbs (only just). Walked back up to the village where lunch was served at about 11.30! They gave us vegetable rice, skewers (vegetable for me), bread and water! Before they ate all the Koreans prayed! It was beautiful to watch! I asked after and they are all Christian and are on a university trip!
After lunch we had a trek to a temple that's in a cave called 'Elephant Cave' as there is a huge rock that naturally looks like an elephant (please I saw those chisel marks).
Trekked back through the jungle and some water filled rice fields to get to our kayaks! There I am trekking through a jungle with one flip flop and one muddy foot! Just what I need!
Got back on our kayak and was kayaking for 2 hours! Believe me, me and Michael bickered enough! At first we were going down the Mekong backwards towards the rapids and couldn't turn the right way around! Great team work! Haha
He said he was the captain and had to steer but kept steering the wrong way! Urgh no wonder girls run the world ;)
After we were going the right way it was more enjoyable! We did grade 2 3 and 4 rapids, this means absolutely nothing to me! They wernt really bad but we did scream!
We hit rocks as well! The instructor wasnt impressed and the next rapids we came to he splashed water from his ore on a bush and all there wild flying beastly dinosaurs flew out at us! I screamed and 3 flew into my mouth! Great! One way ticket to HIV town!
It was like everyone else found enjoyment from my misfortune! These two English idiots decided to have a water fight with us! So we drowned them.
Further along whilst engrossed in Tyra banks poses we didn't realise we were heading straight for the bushes! 10,000 (10) huge spiders dropped on us. Freaked out is an understatement! I screamed the Mekong river down, paddled 4 meters as fast as I could while Michael battled with them, real karate style with his ore, crashed into 3 other kayaks and screamed at the instructed until he removed all the spiders from every crevice of the kayak!
I'm so glad I don't freak out ...
All the way along the river we were singing with this hilarious Korean guy, all the favourites including 'cry me a river', 'rolling on a river', 'row row row your boat' and 'ain't no mountain high, ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide'. He was so so funny!
Our little group stopped at those bridges that cross the river, on the pictures in looks safe but really! It was made from cut bamboo 3 width across and chicken wire holding it together with more wire as handles! Crazy!
After 2 hours we got to the tubing part of the river, it was not what I expected! There is about 15 bars dotted along the wide river on either side. They each have different water activities, zip wires, slides, 15 meter high ladders, trapeze, big air bubbles you jump on, diving boards and everything you could imagine!
We stopped at one of the main ones and met the rest of the group! Val pulled us aside as she just found out the korean guy we had been joking with all day is a celebrity! SAY WHAT!!! He is a comedian that does films and is apparently very famous!! So glad we made a good impression as the crazy English!
We didn't do any of the activities as we had to leave because the trip was coming an end! Kayaked about half an hour till the end, said goodbye to val and walked 10 minutes back to the guest house!
Got showered, ready and went to eat at B & P restaurant! Whilst eating one of the waiters decided it was a good time to cut his toe nails beside us! Only in Laos!!! Haha
