Got up at 10 to pack and check out! Walked down the street to pool bar, sat down and waited to be served! Everything is so slow in Laos though after 15 minutes we just walked out as they were more interested in the game of pool. They must need the money in low season though?
Walked past loads of people waiting for a boat! The boats are tiny and everyone and their rucksacks would just sink it though! Luckily we got our very own boat! I don't know if we paid more though?
When we got to the mainland we sat at the waiting point. The people who got on the crammed boat told us how bad it was!
We met some really friendly people whilst waiting! When people ask us where we are from we say England, Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, near Leeds and then finally Hull if the rest aren't good enough! But this boy we spoke to had actually been to Hull! This is insane! He also said that he met 4 girls travelling from Hull in Thailand! He said they were horrible though! What's new!
The mini bus driver got everyone on the bus but told me and Michael to walk down the street to another bus! After walking 10 minutes in the boiling hot sun the first mini bus drove past us, 2 Laos guys got off and told us to get on! They just didn't want to walk down the street in the heat! Try doing it with rucksacks and bags! :(
On the bus all the friendly people we met got on! Sat next to a guy from Italy and a guy from New Zealand! Whenever you meet travellers it's always the same 3 questions, where are you from, how long are you traveling for and where have you been/are going. Every single time! At least it's predictable!
The bus seated around 13 people and everyone was going everywhere! A couple were going to Thailand and another couple were going to Hong Kong! Megan was supposed to be going to Vietnam but got told on the bus you need a visa before you get to the boarder so she decided to come to Vientiane with us! How random!
A girl on the bus told us we will definitely be in a couple of bus crashes before we leave Asia! Great. We then can over a chicken and chased a herd of cows off the road!
Me, Michael, Megan and a couple that were teachers got dropped off in Pakse at 1 o'clock and our connecting bus was at 8 so we had 7 hours to kill. I looked at a map of the city and decided I wanted to go to the temples and main city then convinced Michael and Megan!
Didn't want to get a tuktuk there as we had time to kill and need to save money! It took about 15 minutes to walk to the first temple called 'Wat Tham Fai'! Megan and Michael were not bothered about walking around so that sat on the grass at the entrance. I walked around and got talking to the two teachers from Arizona!
We all then went to restaurant called 'Delta Coffee', thought it would be beaut as it is mentioned in my lonely planet book but the food and drink was rubbish!
Don't even get me started on the staff! I had to force her so take our order, at which she handed me and pen and paper and told me to do it, they all had there places to stand but talked to each other over all the tables. There was only 2 tables in anyway! When the bill came they charged us 50000 kip extra for nothing as they didn't think we would realise and when we told them they laughed. It was horrendous.
Me and Michael fell asleep in the restaurant! We are mega tired! Set off walking back to the bus station which takes half an hour ish! It started chucking it down! We ran for the last 5 minutes!
The guy came to check our tickets and as Megan was supposed to be going to Vietnam she had the wrong one. She told them that her guest house got it wrong and got away with it!! People are so trusting!
Got on the sleeper bus and just expected a normal coach like all the others we have been on. Oh no! It has bunk beds all the way along! Pretty amazing! Although they are single bed bunk beds and buying a ticket only gets you one half of a single bed! Luckily me and Michael got put together!
There isn't any curtains like the sleeper trains and opposite us were two guys with staring problems so I asked to move us to a different bunk and swap with another guy! Totes creepy!
The girl who was in charge came around and gave everyone a bottle of water and a free chocolate wafer! This is the life! Michael proper craves chocolate, I think he wanted to marry this girl! He ate it without stopping to breath! Haha
As it was a single bed me and Michael spooned all night and at one point we were straddling, nothing new there then! ;)
