So after we got in at 5.15, an hour before our bus leaves we chilled for half an hour which we shouldn't have done. At half 5 we packed then realised we didn't have enough money to check out! Crap.
Transferred money and with 15 minutes till our bus we speed walked all the way the the riverside (it takes 15 minutes to walk there)! Got the money then got all the way back and was only 5 minutes late! Checked out and realised our transfer bus wasn't coming, typical Cambodia! Got a tuktuk to the bus station just in time! The bus actually left at 7! Great.
There wasn't many people on the coach so we got 2 sets each! Talk about luxury!
Was on the coach 7 till 6! I was ready to commit. All we did was sleep! Stopped a few times but only got off once and had some sticky rice.
The boarder crossing from Dom Kralor in Cambodia to Voen Kham in Laos was very different from our previous crossing. We didn't get off the coach! I guy came round and gave us the entering Laos form and then the entering and exiting Laos visa form. We were worried as we heard that fake board officials have got on coaches, taken everyone's passports and money, then ran! But there was nothing we could do but trust the guy.
It cost us $35 (£22.45) for the Laos visa, $5 (£3.20) stamping fee as its a small boarder and $2 (£1.28) for a picture as we didn't bring any. They don't take your picture but you still have to pay for one. Maybe they use the one in my passport.
After we got off the coach we got on a transfer pick up truck to the port! The roads here are made of dried mud so it is very dusty. I got 16 pieces of Laos in my eye within 3 minutes!
Got our money exchanged from Dollars to Kip, bought a boat ticket and got in the boat to 4000 island. It's weird how Laos is landlocked but still has islands! They are beautiful! The island we are staying in has only had electricity for 10 years! Crazy!
Got to the hotel the guys recommended and checked out a room. They are right in the river and cost
Checked in then went to find a place to eat! Bumped into Megan who was on our bus here and went to eat with her! She is travelling alone for a week until she meets her boyfriend again!
Ate at the second restaurant along! Everyone told us how laos is the most laid back place and it really is! We are used to getting our food in restaurants at different times but Megan got hers half an hour before! Then when we paid they didnt have enough change son they are trusting us to pay tomorrow. Good luck with that!
Eating bugs and insects is normal here but Megan told that she once got on a night coach and two girls screamed at the front to turn the lights on as a guy has brought a bag of 10 alive tarantulas on the bus for his meal later on and they had all escaped! This would be my worst nightmare! No joke I would get off the bus and walk.
We went for a drink at pool bar down the street and they didn't have anything on the menu so we got 3 cokes but he only had 1 so walked down to the shop to get another one! It's crazy.
This place had the most people in (5) so it was clearly the place to be! It's low season though I guess. The bar guy offered us a game of Jenga which we declined! Mostly cos I'm amazing at Jenga and didn't want to embarrass Megan and Michael!
Learnt what 'yellow fever' means. It's when white men go for Asian girls! I'm sure this is racist? Maybe I have yellow fever?
On this island there is a strip of places to sleep, eat, drink and shop. It's only about 10 buildings all the way down on each side and that is it for the island we are staying on. I think we will only stay one day!
Forgot to take a malaria tablet today! We forgot once before as well! No one else takes them as they make you go a bit crazy (my bad dreams and Michael's illness). The one and only reason I am taking them is for my mum. She made me promise but we may need to re discuss this. They make you depressed though. I'm on doxycycline but a different malaria tablet made 4 guys in South America depressed and mass murder people then commit suicide. Fabulous.
