I wrote half of this blog on the ferry and half on my second day in Santorini
Mykonos to Santorini
Right now I am on the ferry from Mykonos to Santorini which takes 2 and a half hours with a stop over at Paros (we aren't going to that island, but apparently it's nice and relaxing). Mykonos was amazing but I think they've saved the better places for the end of the tour!
The beach party the other night was absolutely amazing! There were so many people and everybody was dancing on tables, swimming in the clear water, and mingling! Everybody got really drunk so the bus ride back to the hotel was really fun. Our tour manager, Bayden, was coming around to everybody and pouring Smirnoff North in their mouths which is a blueberry vodka, it was really yummy! He also brought over a watermelon that was filled with a bottle of vodka and other types of alcohol but it tasted so nice! It had about 20 straws in it and everybody was drinking out of it at once. He knows all of the club and bar owners so he gets us all a lot of free drinks.
Last night we had a toga party at the hotel and everybody dressed up and got drunk yet again. We had spent the day lazing around by the water and then had dinner for free at the hotel so we were able to back up from the night before but didn't get quite as drunk as the previous day. We also went tubing yesterday and it was so fun! One of the guys got some really good photos so I'll have to get them from him. There were 7 of us who went and we are all so sore today in our upper bodies from holding on to the tube so tightly! Water sports are always fun overseas because they don't have strict regulations about what you can and can't do unlike Australia.
Santorini is going to be amazing. It is regarded as the worlds most beautiful island and has the best sunsets in the world. Our hotel is apparently a 5 minute walk from town so it should be nice and convenient. Tonight we have an included dinner and some of us might go out depending how we feel. A few of us are hiring out some quads tomorrow to drive around the island and on the beaches! I am really excited to do that. The day after we are going to a donkey ride! It should be a nice few relaxing days at Santorini. We stay in each location for 3 nights so we have plenty of time to explore and nothing is rushed. I still can't believe the weather here! I am yet to see it rain, and have only seen a cloud in the sky one day in the whole time I have been here, it's unbelievable. It won't rain the entire time that I am here.
I have been staying out of the sun for most of the day as I don't want to get too dark or burnt. It is really easy to build a tan here. I have still barely spent any money which is great…I have 5 and a half thousand dollars left to spend over the remaining 4 weeks that I have overseas! I'm hoping to come home with some money, but other places might be more expensive for me as food and transport won't be included like they are for my Contiki.
I am far less home sick now that I have settled in to my holiday, but I still like to spend a couple of hours on the internet each day to contact back home. It's nice and comforting that I brought my laptop with me and that the hotels have free WiFi in the reception areas. I have bought some internet minutes for when I am in my room so it's been slightly expensive but well worth it! I'd definitely recommend the Greek Islands to anybody because there are things to do that suit everybody. I am really happy that I chose to come here as part of my holiday as I don't think I'll get the opportunity to come back again…at least not for a long time!!
Day 2 Santorini
What a beautiful island!! I liked this place more than Mykonos from the moment we arrived. It's difficult to explain how nice this island is. After we checked in to our hotel last night we went out to dinner and saw the sunset. I forgot my camera but we are doing a proper sunset tour soon so I will take lots. I wasn't intending on drinking last night but I ended up getting pretty drunk and was home around 2 so it wasn't too late…some people from our tour came home at 7am! We are right in the centre of town so the bars are all within walking distance which is great because transport was nearly impossible in Mykonos.
Today we hired out the quad bikes and took them all over the island. It's a great way to see the island and they don't drive like maniacs like they do in Bali. We went swimming at red sand beach which is really rocky but it's beautiful! The water is so warm over here it's great.
Tonight I think I'll just have a quiet one, although I've said that nearly every night and end up going out with the group. I can't wait to ride the donkeys tomorrow, I'm sure they will remind me of Joey. I feel so healthy here aside from all of the alcohol. Small, fresh meals and lots of swimming and walking it's fantastic.
