We began day 2 with an early breakfast and stroll through the markets before heading to the airport. Our flight to Chiangmai was quick and easy and Boots and Ramsay picked us up at the airport. After finally finding our hotel they dropped us off at the Sirilanna. It is an old traditional Thai house converted into a boutique hotel. Very unique complete with mahogany doors and furniture. We headed out to the local temple - Wat Chedi Luang. This temple is like a large compound with many small and large temples and lots of golden Buddhas. There was an old pagoda built in the 1300's supposedly the largest in Thailand. This was very different from yesterday's temples - it was very peaceful and a lot less crowded. We went to an area where the monks who live there sit and talk with visitors in what they cal "Monk Chat". Our little monk's name was Pinon from Cambodia. He was very sweet and friendly and wanted to improve his English. A 13 year old Chinese girl joined our conversation when she heard us speaking English. Her goal was to learn English, become a lawyer make a lot of money & buy a big house. She was so cute - she knew English from books but never had conversations so she was so excited!
We left and wandered around the old town, found a good Thai restaurant, had another Thai massage (1 hour for $10!) even cheaper here. Exhausted we headed back to turn in early. We are meeting the rest of the Habitat group tomorrow morning and driving over to Lampang to settle in before our work begins!
