Our last day in Thailand! Got up at 5:30 (actually 3:45 when the rooster outside our window began crowing)! We headed back into jungle to pick up our elephants. It was about a 30 minute walk - very beautiful early sunrise. The elephants were happy and excited when we got them. We all got back on ( very sore thighs) and rode them back down to the arena after we stopped and bathed them in river. This time I didn't get in because it was cold! We took them back and helped feed them sugar cane, bananas and corn. They actually shuck the corn with their trunk and foot and eat the whole ear. It's amazing to watch them eat. My elephant probably ate 40 ears of corn plus everything else. Then we left and had our breakfast & came back at 9:00 for a show for a couple hundred visitors. We start at the river where we take them in the water for bathing and squirting. It's crazy and I can't believe I'm actually doing this! Then back to the arena for our last performance- I'm beginning to feel pretty comfortable with it all now. After the show we make a few souvenir purchases, shower, pack, eat lunch and head to the airport.
We left chiang Mai at 4:30 pm -flew to Bangkok, then to Hong Kong - left there at midnight flew 12 hours to San Francisco. That was rough - I was middle seat in row of 3 - no business class this time. Slept a little and watched a few movies - Argo, Lincoln and Arbitrage. They were all pretty good. It was only 9:30 pm in California but really noon Sunday to us. We caught the red eye to Dallas and landed at 5:30 am - drove back to Tyler and laid down for a "few minutes". Woke up at noon! Still feeling a little groggy but stopped by sarah and Josh's Super Bowl party & left when mark slept through Beyonce's half time performance! Well back to the real world tomorrow... It was truly a trip of a lifetime!
