Phi phi today! We had found a company, and a nice lady boy sold us a daytrip to the islands. I was going to get bob there at last. The pick up was due for 8.20 but by 9.10 we were starting to wonder and it finally arrived an hour late. Thai time! The pick up trick slowly filled up and we finally made it to town and onto our speedboat for the day.
Quite a nice boat the seagull took about 14 of us out to sea, past chicken island (starting to recognise rocks now!) And first stop was the crystal clear beach of bamboo island. The beach looked like a speedboat carpark but a stroll around the corner proved quieter as we explored bob loved the beaches and I laughed saying this is why he and Richard should have got motivated to move from kata beach all those years ago!
A swim and few piccies later we stopped off for a snorkel in the reef. The fishies were everywhere but like the dolphins you didn't feel them. Very pretty and we even spied some angel fish! Back on the boat, we headed on to phi phi and I spied Yao beach where I stayed all those years ago. Pavilion still there but new bungalows had been built since into the hills. We pulled up on a tiny beach near the pier to see more monkeys but unlike our friends the day before, these were a cheeky bunch and stole towels, sat on backpacks like they owned them and ran after you for food! One little chap caught our eye as he had injures his tail and you could see he couldn't quite believe it as he stared at it intently.
Back on the boat we crossed the short hop to phi phi don and had lunch. All good except the spaghetti Bol was cold, the sweet and sour was fish balls that looked like brains and the water tasted funky! We only had an hour on the island so we pegged it into the town to look around and grab an ice cream.
Back on the boat, we Then went to phi phi ley to see the lagoons and Maya beach. Maya beach was a tad more busy than my last trip but you could still see it's beauty. Again the motorboats had parked up and there was now a snack bar but we popped on our snorkels to swim to the little side beach for a quick look around and pee on phi phi before returning back!
The clouds were coming in and we knew rain was due so after the snorkel the boat headed back and bam, tropical storm hit and waves bounced as we steadily got wetter and wetter on the boat. The cool kids at the front all ran back and the hardy crew and a couple of men sat up front with the ice box clinging on to try and balance the boat out. Rain was gushing in and the driver was in main fire!
Hilariously we made it back - soaking but safe and after a warm shower the rain stopped in time for dinner. We went back into ao nang to change Rob's boardies. The kind Thai ladies who had laughed "big boy" when he bought a 36 ate their words As 34 came back. I also got some more links bracelets as a sneaky look online showed them ad 110 quid but a tenner in Thailand! Hee hee.
Pizza was yum and them with a quick search for a rayban t shirt we got a tuk tuk back to phu petra. Rob was disappointed the juicy pink tuk tuk declined us but we did have a friendly smiley driver and his chirpy son instead! Hmmmm
