Boxing Day and it's sunny (and we weren't hallucinating!) Beach day ahoy! Kiwi hero Bear grylls woke me up with bear getting all cold in the snow, silly boy. But outside sun was shining so we packed lunch and scooted off to the car park to get our boards for sun and surf. Rob's 10 foot board proved interesting to carry but we reused annette's handy wetsuit backpack trick to carry things down.
It was hot on the beach but we had wised up and had a bottle of 30 sun cream to slather on. Rob braved the shark and jellyfish ridden waters to test the bodyboard waves and I relaxed with my book. Yay!
After having sampled the glassy 1ft waves Rob thought it time to try out the 10ft beast on some green! He waited a good 1 hour for the 50 year wave, but it never came. Overcome with a mass migration of jellyfish onto the line up he retreated to the beach after paranoia of getting stung set in.
I finally made it in the water after our lunch and rob had to cajoul me deeper as the sea nasties started to drift near to me! The jellyfish were huge! But I got some waves and had fun. The sun's heat was intense so we decided that by 4.15 it was time to retreat and return the board. This task took both of us to carry the giant board back to the shop then with a sneaky peek at some of the shops on Mounganui road - a very cute little high street, we wandered home to read by the pool, watch Harry potter and sleep!
