Anna's travels
Hello, well its about time I give you an Oz update me thinks. Been here nearly 2 weeks now and man have we done a lot. Adelaide was good but so bloody cold!!! On our second day in Oz we started by taking a wine tasting tour in the Barossa Valley. Was so much fun, but there was only me, van and two Korean girls who were a little merry by 10am. We went to 4 different vineyards and tried ALOT of wine, becoming a little wine expert now. We checked out the beach the next day, which was lovely but a little cold for sun baking as they call it here. Not much else to report from Adelaide, Nice city, VERY COLD!!!
Then it's when the fun really begins.....On 6th June we started on out Groovy Grape tour of the outback. Our guide Richi was highly amusing and we had many a laugh thanks to him and the others on the tour. 3 Germans, Me, Van and Kaite Frost Katie Frost Katie Frost and our lovely Italian ski instructor Andreas!!!!!
On the first day we did a hideous walk at a place called Devils Peak. Great views from the top but pretty hard to get there. We saw lots of Roos and Emus driving through the Flinders ranges and eventually ended up at a little cabin for the night. Next morning was the start of the early mornings and 5of us headed of on a 9km bike ride through the ranges. I really enjoyed it, van not so much as she had no breaks and there were some pretty steep hills. On the second night we stayed under the stars in our swag. I didn't like the idea at first but it was loads of fun round the campfire. We stayed at a place where only 5 people live but of course there was a pub which we took full advantage of!!!
Next morning was highly exciting as I pretended to me a flying doctor and took a ride in a 4seater propeller airplane over the outback. It was absolutely amazing....Flew over places were no one has ever been. It really made me realize just how bloody big the outback is...nothing for as far as the eye can see. Positive experience Keith tick tick!!!
Next it was on to Coober Pedy, a town famous for its opals, apparently nearly all the opals in the world or a lot at least are found here and I was hoping to find my fortune noodling(that's opal hunting) but it was not to be. It was a funny little town because nearly everything is underground. We took a little tour around the town, mines and underground homes which was fun. That night we too slept underground and it was a lot warmer than sleeping outside.
Next day it was a lot of driving and up to Ayers Rock or Uluru as it's known over here. We stayed at base camp Uluru which was just like center parcs I thought, but sleeping outside. Was great to watch the sunset over ayers rock with a can of xxxx in hand...what a life hey. It was so cold at night tho, I literally had to wear all of my clothes for the full week. What a minger hey not sure they will ever become clean. Up at 5 for sunrise which was spectacular. You can climb the rock but after visiting the cultural center we all decided not too as they ask you not too about a zillion times, instead we walked right round it!
Next day we watched the sunrise over The Olgas, big rock thing near Uluru and did another walk. With all this walking I thought I would have lost a bit of weight, we did about 40kms which is not nearly enough to walk of the amount of beer and wine consumed!!!
On our last night under the stars we had a visitor in the shape of a dingo!!! Well I was not happy and Vanessa didn't even wake up to help me...luckily it didn't stay long but I didn't get much sleep after that! We did our final walk in a place called Kings Canyon. Very impressive! Then it was on to Alice Springs. We all went for a lovely meal and then drank far too much rose. 12am came and I was 22, Australia beat Japan and so everyone was happy.
We had a very hangover flight to Cairns, where we met up with Sue and the girls (my family in oz incase you don't know who that is) had a lovely fish supper a bottle of bubbly. Was really pleased with all my cards and I got a can of diet coke of Vanessa...what more can a girl ask for (well some straighter's and she got me them too).
Were in Cairns now, thinking about getting a job, but we might have abit more fun first. Had a smashing night last night on free champagne and England won but I fell out of the taxi and have hurt my ankle...negative can hardly walk.
Hope this has not been a mammoth boring read. Will try keeping up to date from now on.
All the best!
