Hulloo,
We lshall start where we left u last time..
That night in Byron bay we thought it would be nice to cook our own meal and save $$$, this of course backfired. We had a gas oven but we couldnt light it, just managed to get a bit light headed ourselves from the gas. We ended up cooking a pizza in the microwave- frisbee anyone? Not the best... The kayaking was cancelled the next day due to beginning of the worst weather in 35 years so we shopped and went to the beach in torrential rain, that night we drank far too much. I wont elaborate.
We then had 10 hours of driving with a banging head! We stayed that night in Myall lakes, it was a lake in the rain, not too exciting really. However, i did try calimari which is my new fave food.
Last night of our "suntanner" tour, possibly paler than when we started. Was a really good laugh though and made some really good mates. Stopped off in hunter valley which is a winery hot spot, we werent too bothered with the wine ( the goon has put us off it for life!) but the main attraction was the "hunter valley chocolate company" shop and the "brittish lolly" shop, yummmm. We then finished our tour in sydney and checked into our hostel.
Fisrt stop in sydney was the market, trying to find a decent outfit for a night out (a denim skirt and daps just wont cut it here!). Then we went to the Aquarium which was amazing, we have loads of picture of...fish. We saw nemo and his gang, sharks, stingrays, penguins, crocs, squid, turtles and a dugong! Was really good and well worth the discounted "backpacker" ticket to get in. That evening we went out with the suntanner crew, not a late one but nice to have one final get together, walked MILES to kings cross, the red light district of sydney...yes you read that right, couldnt stop giggling. Next day we took 1400 steps up the harbour bridge to the peak, it took 2.5 hours and it was a lovely sunny day so the city looked lush. We werent allowed to take our cameras up but bought some pics at the end. We then walked through "The rocks" upmarket market and to the opera house to get a piccy...then jumped on the ferry to Manly beach. Buying the ticket wasnt easy and were constantly hearing "you pommes are sooo gullable!!". Next day in Sydney Anj managed to sleep through her 6am alarm for her skydive and couldnt wake me up so ran to the bus. I went to Bondi for the day and luckily bumped into one of the girls from the tour on the bus so i wasnt a complete larry for the day. Our last night in a hostel for a while as we picked up the van the next day.
One our first day with the van we had our first break down, drove 600km and blagged a free night in a holiday lodge carpark as the man was "worried" about us getting to the flooded campsite. Then next day after another 800km safely, avoiding the workmen that liked to jupm infront of the van pulling faces on the highway we arrived in Byron Bay. The weather was a lot nice this time around so our days were spent at the beach mainly and nights driving around trying to find somewhere to park, this is not easy in Byron and we gave up after 2 nights of being woken up at 6am with a bang on the side of the van and a ranger threatening us with fines and resorted to campsites after this. We did have another break down in Byron and the van had to spend a day in the garage but it was sunny so we could beach. We did Ocean kayaking one morning, there was 80 dolphins all around us jumping out of the water, it was amazing, until another group went too close and scared them away, the dolphins didnt even come back after my dolphin impression asking them to come back! We tried to catch waves with the kayak on the way back but managed to capsize twice, it is not as easy as it looks!
We then took the van up to Brisbane for the day and bumped into another suntanner tour person so we did lunch and shopped. Next day we went to Australia zoo "home of the crocodile hunter" We fed elephants (!!!) and stroked kangeroos and we have pics to prove it! We then starked on our 1500km drive back down to sydney to drop the van off and go ape at the hire ppl, we didnt get very far with that though, they gave us a 1day refund so i said in my most important voice "is this the address to your head office? I am not happy about this" So dad, can you write me a snotty letter please??
We left Sydney airport and our now in christchurch, new zealand, its soo cold but our "sanctuary" rooms have heated blankets!! At the airport it was like an episode of nothing to declare, we got sniffed out by the dog and had our bags searched twice, i blame Andreas apple. Weve spent the last day and a half pottering round Christchurch, buying hats and gloves. We start our Kiwi experience on monday so shall be doing lots! Wish us luck and warmth!
Thats us for now. Lots of love, Us two xxxxxx
