Well our time has come to an end in Chiang Mai. We will be very sad to leave this city, its an amazing place. Yesterday we both had a massage, I had a back, neck, shoulder and head massage and Col had an oil massage. Well i did enjoy it but it certainly wasnt relaxing, I have never had so many elbows and knees in my back. Ouch, but it did feel amazing, I was pulled and tugged in many different positions for my back and at one point thought i might snap but luckily didint. My bad neck feels soooo much better today, in a few days time I shall have another one. Col opted for the less vigourous oil massage and was on cloud nine afterwards, so much so that he went back tonight for another one. LOL. They spend a good hour on you and all for £4 .Last night we went and checked out the night bazaar. How cool is that market. Loved it. Bought the cutest little salt and pepper pots.
Today was our last full day here, and so we spent the afternoon at the zoo and aqaurium. It was good although I think i will make a pact and say that will be my last ever zoo I visit, I just dont feel right seeing animals or birds in cages. The one thing that did upset me was seeing an elephant with chains on its front legs so it couldnt walk around fully, totally unecessary and digusting. Apart from that the animals looked to be in good heath although the enclosures for the aligators and crocs need to be a whole lot bigger and better, So I have decided never to do a zoo again! The aquarium on the other hand was good, especially the walk way under the water and seeing the underneath of the large fish small sharks and stingrays. A really big place, I think we have walked miles today.
Tonight we went to a nice restaurant and had a lovely spicy Tom Sam salad, followed by a delicious main course. Yum, what a lovely end to a fantastic city.
Tomorrow morning we are being collected from our hostel and driven to the border to a town called Chiang Khong, there we shall stay the night and in the morning catch the slow boat into Laos. We have an overnight stop in Pak Beng, a little village on the banks of the Mekong, before day 2 of the slow boat journey down the Mekong River. Hopefully by Saturday night we should arrive in Luang Prabang. I have booked accommodation for 2 nights, so I hope the city is great as the last one we have visited. The hostel informs us on the way to the border town, we stop at Chiang Rai, which I am pleased about as we looked at booking a day trip there but opted against it as it was slightly pricey for us poor backpackers.
I shall write again when we hit Laos.
Take care. x
