Well we made it to Chiang Mai.
The train journey here was immense 16 hours but felt like 5 it was great. The train left at 6.15pm on Friday night and we arrived in Chiang Mai at 10.15am on Saturday morning. We had a cozy little cabin where the seat turned into two bunks, dead cute. We went down to the restaurant carriage, and went through second class carriages, looked ace and cozy all together, im defo doing second class next time looks more fun. As for the food, well I haven't had a meal where you rock about so much it's worse than a boat but we enjoyed it all the same. Had a good nights sleep considering the movement and noise on the tracks. Had breakfast in our little room and before you know it we are here in Chiang Mai.
When we pulled up to our hostel, Green Tulip House, I was like oooh nice! Painted with super bright colours and greeted with smiles. The lady who runs it, Stella, she is crazy but awesome. We booked 2 more nights here so staying for 5 altogether as we like the place so much. Our room is fab and for £4 a night you can't complain even the bathroom is better than mine at home lol.
We have been here for 2 days now and we both have fallen in love with the place. This city is fantastic and clean! Don't get me wrong Bangkok was fab too but Chiang Mai is different, it's not as humid and close so it's easier to walk around, it's not as heavy with traffic still busy but not Bangkok busy and you are not overrun with tuk tuks beeping at you for a ride. The scenery is lovely and there are sooooo many things to do. You walk down the road and come to an amazing temple or wat it's brill. Yesterday afternoon after checking out our digs we went to find one of the Wats that are dotted around the city. We came across Wat Pha Singh, lovely buildings, check out the photos. So funny, we went into one of the temples and there were monks all around. We sat down and watched everyone praying when one of the monks at the front sat in the lotus position just wasn't moving. Col was watching him for 10 minutes and couldn't believe how still he was, he was in amazement. He didn't even blink. Col took a sneaky photo of him and when we got back to the hostel he was telling Stella about him, she laughed and said 'its because he is made of wax!' Lol well the wax monk was soooo lifelike it was scary and makes Madam Tussaud's look like a child's play. Take a look at the photo to see for yourself.
we did a tour this afternoon to visit a hill tribe and Wat Phar. Doi Suthep. A very holy place a lot of monks around, one approached Col to admire his tattoos he really liked the Japanese inspired sleeve. Before that we visited the Mau hill tribe village people. Where they grow opium poppies! That was nice with some great views of the mountain.
Tomorrow night we plan to go to a professional Thai boxing match! Will let you know all the details after tomorrow.
At the minute I'm in a bar watching Liverpool v Everton, can't even escape it here thousands of miles away!
Will post again soon xxxx
