Singapore
We arrived into Singapore after a really easy flight from Hanoi. We were lucky as we were given an aisle seats which were next to the emergency exit so we had loads of leg room. 3 ½ hours later we were there. We managed to figure out the MRT underground quite easily, and got to our accommodation without any hassle. The hostel was our first experience of dorms. As the rest of the far east was cheap you could easily afford our own private room, not Singapore.
Our first night was a little bewildering, as we had to share our dorm with a very large Indian gentleman who was having night terrors, and snoring like a wilder beast. Hence to say we were a little concerned with how we would cope with dorms all through Australia and New Zealand. However, he left the next morning and we had a completely new mix of people for the duration of our stay. The dorm was full with a Scottish couple, 2 German brothers and us. All were tolerable and enjoyable to be around. We all checked out today (2nd January). Apart from the occasional drunken noise and falling out of bed (Scottish guy), we slept well.
Singapore has a more lavish finish on everything, more than anywhere else we have been to. Shopping malls have canals with gondolas, which you can sail round in. Everything has a pristinely clean finish. With no dirt, litter, grime or chavs anywhere.
We met a couple from Liverpool, (Everton fan, booooooo), and went to Marina Bay with them to watch New Years Eves firework display. It was a great night, and the fireworks were amazing. The rain held off for the whole night, considering it was lashing down all day. When I say 'lasing down' I don't mean Grimsby lasing down, I mean tropical Singapore monsoon lashing down. It was still very warm and humid at midnight and felt great to be walking around in t-shirts and shorts.
We've had a great time in Singapore and enjoyed our time here. Next stop Cairns.
I'm nearly there Nicola. Lol.
