Machu Picchu
Well what can I say, just WOW.
We woke up to rain that morning so we didn't get out of bed to catch the 5.30am train, it was dark and wet. We got up and instead caught the 6.30am train, by that time the rain had stopped and it looked like it was brighting up. We arrived at Machu Picchu gate for 7am and we rushed to Wayna Picchu as we had a ticket to hike it between 7am and 8am. We got there and entered at 7.40am. We decided to do the full walk around the entire mountain which took approximately 4 hours in total. We did it in 3.25 not bad. It was hellish, the walk up is a hike, very steep and hard work but the views are awesome, overlooking Machu Picchu itself, just brilliant. The rest of the hike was hard work but we got to take in some amazing scenery along the way.
Machu Picchu itself was great, I can't believe how preserved it is after all these years. The weather turned out to be brilliant too, it enhanced the scenery and the mist rising up through the forest, just fantastic. I would love to visit Peru again, and I would visit Machu Picchu again, but next time I would love to do the Inca Trail, although it sounds like a lot of hard work. We spent about 8 hours there in total, I was glad we booked 2 nights in Aguas Calientes, so we could get there early and avoid the crowds and stay until everyone else had left. We Loved it and it exceeded all our expectations. We would do it all again!!!
