After another good days "work" we settle in for a delicious meal at our favorite little "warung" (restaurant) to a large local Bintang beer, fresh, crisp organgic salad which by the way, organic fruits and vegetables are cheaper here than the other produce as they say that it costs them money to use all those expensive chemicals. Why couldn't it be like that back home, instead of the arm and half a leg it costs back there?? Alvin enjoys a large plate of fish (tuna) and chips with homemade tartar sauce. We spend an hour at the internet checking Facebook and sending pics of a great accomodation for Judy and Halina to stay once they arrive in January.
Sounds like there is finally a winter wonderland back home and Hayden (my little grandson) is having a blast on his new tobaggan. After finishing up at the internet we head across the street to another to-die-for bakery. They rival the Bali Buddha in their mildly sinful delicious treats many of which are smothered in dark chocolate! We indulge in a delightful sky-high chocolate mousse dusted in cocoa powder and topped with a rich-dark chocolate coin. Meanwhile embracing the cool night breeze as it blows through the open air of the 2nd floor. It's a casual, laid-back atmosphere scattered with Bali architecture/decorating mags and large oversized multi-colored pillows that fill the chairs and bench seats. The passersby on the street below provide entertainment as we relish in every flavorful bite of our tasty mousse. I'm sure we will be partaking in our new found treat often now that we've discovered it, BAD!
We take the long way home to our bungalow while enjoying the cool night air as it blows through our hair and removes the heat of the day from our once sweaty bodies. The top of Monkey Forest Road is still and quiet in the darkness, as the monkeys have bedded down for the night in the trees and all but a few shops are closed. The Balinese are celebrating yet another ceremony as people of all ages fill the streets, the ladies delicately balancing baskets of fruit apon their heads. While on their way to the palace at the corner of our street. We hear the high-pitch sound of a bell ringing as we enter the yard which houses our bungalow. A young man clothed in white, unmoved by our presence, sits in a trance-like state, chimming the bell as the light from a small flourescent fixture dimly illuminates a large bowl of sand with small stategically placed objects. The temperature of the bungalow is still warm as the heat of the day lingers on. We open the large, almost floor to ceiling windows and doors while cranking the fan on high as we hear the sounds of the night come alive. The rhythmic chanting sound of frogs, geckos and various bugs which are only calmed slightly by the trickling water which can be heard off in the distance. A mosaic patterned flourescent butterly wonders in and makes himself quite at home for awhile. Alvin watches a new release on his portable DVD as the amazing scent from a large crystal bowl filled with bright yellow Chempaka flowers swimming in water wafts through the air. As another day ends, I marvel in the magical days ahead full of bright discoveries and new horizons here on this wonderous "Island of the Gods."
