I't's difficult to believe that two years and some days have passed since my last blog entry. I'm not sure where the time's gone, but gone it has. Well, I'm here once again on this magical Island of the Gods, as it's known. This time I'm staying in Kuta, the city nearest the airport.
It's afternoon on the eve of the New Year. Heavy rain is falling as I sit at my hardwood table typing away on my new notebook. The living/dining room is open to the elements but covered with a large overhang extension recently added to the roof. My body has become somewhat of a barometer here in Kuta. I'm always aware of pending rain as my body feels exceedingly heavy and my skin has a hot stickiness. It makes you feel like you want to jump out of your skin, for lack of better words. There's a huge relief from that feeling when the rain comes. I don't recall experiencing that in Ubud. Probably because it's farther north and inland from the ocean. Our bungalow is only a few minutes walking distance from the ocean. It's more for the surfers than swimmers though as the large waves make for happy surfers. Gigger Beach in the Nusa Dua area and Padang Padang near Uluwatu on the Bukit peninsula are two of my favorite beaches for chillin' and swimming.
Rainy season is apon us once again here in Bali. It began a couple weeks ago and up until then we had extremely hot weather.
There are fireworks exploding all over the city and there has been everyday for the last few weeks but even more so now since Christmas.
Gusti, my Balinese boyfriend has gone to his village in Tampaksiring and will be assisting in the preparation of traditional Balinese food for his large annual New Year's Celebration. His 30+ staff members along with friends and family should make for a fabulous party tonight.
I'll stop over in Denpasar to see my friends Ron from my home town in BC that arrived a couple wekeks ago in Bali and his friends Rodney from Australia and his wife and kids.
I'm hoping the rain lets up before then as I was planning on travelling by motorbike.
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and let's make 2012 the best year yet!!
