So we're in Batemans Bay at the moment about 4 hours south of sydney on the coast and its raining today!! Not that i will complain about the weather because my tan is progressing nicely!!
We left Sydney last Friday (a week ago) in our new Ford Falcon station Wagon after walking the about 5km a day around sydney looking at the sights! We didn't intend on walking so far, the transport system is really good, but we were being cheap and things aren't far apart enough to warrent spending money on bus fares!! We did the usual sights of the Opera House, Botanical Gardens and the Harbout Bridge, including stopping for a drink in Darling Harbour. All of which was great to see, Sydney is a really nice city!! We also spent a day looking at the Art Galleries in town, and saw some very interesting stuff, although the main art gallery was not quite as impresssive as Christchurch,NZ but it did have some cool instalation art pieces. There was also a gallery dedicated to the art work of Nelson Mandella, which was not amazing art work, but more an insight into his time spent on Robben Island.
Our first stop out of sydney was the Blue Mountain Nation Park. I'll be honest it wasn't that great. It was cool to see a different side of Austrailia but the mountains just don't compare to the mountains of New Zealand, and there was so many tourists there it was hard to breath! But i understand the name now...i guess it is the Blue Mountain because even on a clear day they hold a blue haze over them! It was all very sry and dusty for a couple of days so we decided to head back to the coast and check out Bondi Beach.
Bondi Beach was not what i expected, its small and very very crowded with beautiful and not so beautiful teens and early twenties!! we got parked right by a ticket machine and twice we were asked by ozzy girls how to work it, we were like 'we're the tourists not you!'. there was no surf yet there was 20 people just sitting out on the boards anyway...all for the image!! and loads of amazing new cars with 'p' plates on...you get the picture! We did go on a sunday afternoon though so maybe during the week its quieter. We were thinking that we might find some surf boards here but it turned out to be not a very serious surf spot so we moved on down the coast.
Since then we've just been driving from beach to beach really. Found a really amazing beach i nthe Royal National Park which was really quite and had a natural lagoon for safe swimming!! We bought our surf boards on three days ago too, they were a little more than we expected but mine in brand new and al' is 'hand shaped' and in really good condition so we think they'll be east to dell on, if not i'll bring them home!! We went sufing wed and it was rubbish, beautiful beach but there was really strong undercurrents and jellyfish in the water so we gave up quite quickly!! Yesterday was loads better, at Broulee Beach, my arms are aching today though!! Hopefull the weather will clear up abit so we can go out this afternoon!
On the Bug front i was doing well till thismorning when i can across a massive spider in one of the toilet cubicles...it was huge!!!! had to get al out of bed so he would watch the spider whilst i went to the next cubical!!! The bugs get really load at nice too, as soon as the sun goes down all the crickets ect start making really loud noises, the volume is quite unreal, and there is a bird that sounds like a monkey too....
