New York again
JetBlue turned out to be a much superior company to spirit, their plane actually left for a start and somewhere near on time as well!! The flight to New York took just over 5 hours and we were even offered a drink and snack. Arriving at JFK at 10:30 we proceeded through American security for the 4th time this trip although this airport seemed to be far more organised with almost no queues this time. After collecting our bags we went into the main terminal where we asked one of the information ladies how to get into Manhattan, another nice surprise was in store when she turned out to actually know and didn't just tell us to take a taxi. We ended up having to take the Airport train/shuttle to a subway station where we could get a train into town. Due to a small screw up by one of the subway staff we ended up getting off one station too late where we found that you can't actually transfer to the train we wanted without paying again (this must be the only station where that happens!!) As a result we had a 12 block walk to the apartment of a lady we had met on couch-surfing called Amy Joe. She wasn't in when we arrived but had left a key with the security guard downstairs. We dropped our stuff off in her amazing apartment which is on the 29th floor and commands a stunning view of the Upper West side. Deciding that if we actually lay down we would likely fall asleep and miss the entire day we thought it better to quickly change and clean up before heading back out immediately. The aim was to find a dress shop which we had discovered last time we were here and wanted to go back to. We walked down to Herald Square, through Time square which was as busy as ever although the slow walking people were substantially less annoying now that we have experienced south America!! When we arrived however we found that there had been quite a bit of construction and shuffling of shops around this area. We are not sure if the shop we were looking for had moved or closed down but in either case it turned out to be impossible to find, instead Mae was 'forced' to look in all the other shops instead but had no luck find the sort of dress she wanted. By 4 she decided to give up and we went to the Famous Dave's we had previously researched where we once again ordered the 'feast for two' but decided to swap the BBQ chicken for buffalo wings because they had been too hot for Mae previously and now she can eat hotter food she wanted to try them again. The enormous amount of food was delicious as we had expected although we thought that the beef brisket had been slightly better in Vegas. Unlike that time though we barely managed to eat 2/3 of our meal and had to request a take away box for the rest. We waddled back to the apartment where we finally met Amy Joe.
