Dancing!!
After a leisurely lie in we got up to blue skies and sunshine! We spent a few hours wandering about, looking in various bookshops for a south American map which doesn't appear to exist and generally browsing. We paid a visit to STA, the travel agents we used back in the UK to set up our trip and insurance, to see if we could sort some of our later flights out. They were very helpful and gave us the website of a company called spirit air who work out cheaper than any of their own flights but have to be booked direct. After discussing various things we came away with knowledge about the subway, where to get cheap show tickets, flight info and various other bits and bobs. Still being early we decided to go to times square and have a look round. I dread to think what the place is like at the weekends, it was really busy today which was a Monday! Quite an awesome place for people watching and just a general busy, vibrant feeling you only get in such places. We nosed about for a while all the time heading in the general direction of the salsa club for that night called Session 73..original, its on 73rd street! We stopped for a bite to eat before heading into the club/bar about 7.30. As this was one of the Pre-parties for the congress we got in free with our VIP ticket. It was dead as I kind of guessed it might be at that time so we got a half price, happy hour drink each and watched as it slowly filled up a bit and things started happening on the tiny stage. By 8.45 or so there were a smattering of people and I could see shoes being changed so we did the same in time for an announcement that there would be a lesson while the band set up1 Awesome :) It turned out to be a beginner lesson but was nice to get the On2 idea into our heads before actually dancing properly, it also gave us a chance to meet a couple of people, a guy from England who was over here working and dances On1 and a guy from LA, also an On1 dancer. I had a feeling at this point I'd get quite a mixed night and I was right...a few people used me as a break from dancing On2 and were able to relax and have an On1 dance before resuming extreme concentration trying to stay on time to On2!! It was good for me because I got some great dances I might not otherwise have had and got to practice my On2 as well with people who only dance that. By the end of the night myself and Andy were both just about managing a whole song without reverting to On1 and leaving on a good note we went to find our way home via the subway at about 12.30. This proved long winded and not as simple as we thought from looking at the map as there were closures for works being done and so detours or trains not running. We got back at about 2.30 and after moving the car so we didn't get towed (odd restrictions here!) relaxed for a while before going to bed exhausted but happy.
