Hey hey, ive finally got round to updating the site, miracles never cease but im finally moving again so i actually have something to write about. Im working my way down the south island and have arrived at queenstown again. I spent two days in abel tasman which was really beautiful, its a massive national park with the usual spectacular mountains, rainforesat and beaches. I went sea kyacking which was really good, spent the whole day going to beaches and sailing round wee islands.
The next day we went to barrytown or baz-vegas as its known. Its consists of a tiny pub in the middle of nowhere, therefore the only thing to do in barrytown is drink and while i dont normally enjoy that kinda thing, i forced myself to join in. They had boxes of terrible clothes which we had to dress up in to get happy hour extended at the bar which explains a lot of the photos of wierdly dressed people.
The following day we headed to franz joseph where the famous franz joseph glacier is. We went on a whole day glacier hike which was pretty awesome, we got little picks that you could smash the ice up with - great fun and useful for kids with ADD (and me). Best bit was climbing up a vertical ice wall with the ice picks altho dont be fooled ice is more than just glorified snow - its bloody lethal (see photo of bloodied hands). Also got a bit sunburnt but its all good now.
Then went to wanaka for two nights which was again more amazing scenery and really peaceful. Went mountain biking which was good fun but hard work and someone dangerous when you hit these trails with no real idea what you're doing! Still i survived with only a few scars so its all good. We also went to the tiny wee cinema there which is well cool as its fullof sofas and theres an intermission where hot freshly baked cookies are sold and they were tremendous.
Then headed on to queenstown where ive been the last 4 nites. Not done anything too exciting (except go out and...well drink!) but today i went rafting which i really enjoyed however it was a pretty tame river so it has inspired me to do the most extereme rafting i can find on my way home - if i dont have a near death experience i dont feel ill have got my money's worth!
Ok better go and pack as off to milford sounds tomorrow. laters...
