Well after a very heavy rainy night, still raining in the morning!
So we pack up the tent in the heavy rain after breakfast, trying to keep the inner tent dry, getting ourselves soaked in the process. Pack up the car and drive to the showers, after a nice hot shower and dry clothes we start our 2-3 hour journey to Franz Josef.
The journey is not a good one, roads are flooding everywhere and rivers close to bursting banks, if not already, another death defying treacherous road trip!!! Due to the severe weather warnings on the radio, which we pick up infrequently, arrive at Franz Josef, still pissing down we decide to go for a room rather than a tent. Find a nice bunk twin room in a hostel (66 NZD) then after a nice coffee and double aviator burger (world renowned apparently) back to the hostel for the afternoon, can't do
much due to the rain (see picture) hearing some thunder and seeing some lightning now, room was a very good choice! Raining all evening so we stayed in playing poker and having a few beers :-) and watched Lord of the Rings (as someone was playing these films in the TV room) then to bed for an earlyish night.
