We left Hanoi with an organised tour bus and had arrived in Halong Bay by 11.30. We were greeted by an array of pirate style boats and after departing settled down to a lunch of squid. The boats to Cat Ba island stopped at various caves, one where you entered by boat which was good. Just before arriving in Cat Ba the driver of the boat fell asleep, causing us to crash into a cliff face of one of the many beautiful islands, the hit was harder than expected and Taka went flying across the boat, fortunately everyone was ok. The captain and the tour quide both denied responsibility, the driver lied about falling asleep causing unhappiness on the boat. Steve managed to squeeze a free drink out of the captain which cheered everyone up. We finally arrived in Cat Ba,and later that evening we went out. Firstly to a Vietmanese club thento a karoeke bar, where i spoke French for ages to one of the guys and just generally had a good time!
The following morning disappeared due to sleep but it was needed! After lunch and after much deliberationwe hired 2 motorbikes with guides because after giving it a go ourselves we decided it was probably for the best! We toured the islandand did a small walk in the Cat Ba National Park rainforest. After dinner Jon and I went to watch Chelsea v Arsenal in the 'Flightless bird'. Keith from Kent with no hair (this was how he introduced himself)told us to leave Vietnam because it was crap but on a more positive notei was mistaken for being Australian by Ozzies themselves because I wasnt pasty enough to be English
