Lomax has taken over the blog responsibility as Bowden has once again not prepared for uploading with his out of date phone. Typical. He has been too busy training as is evidenced by his arse disappearing into the clouds whenever a steep climb appears.
The title of the blog is very appropriate today as , if you could describe a perfect day cycling , today would be it. 65 miles of climbing and utter magnificent scenery. Imagine the Italian Job or an Aston Marton James Bond advert with a car hurtling round the coast through tunnels and overhanging cliff roads with a crystal clear sea as a backdrop. Unbelievable. Partner this with seaside towns unspoilt by stupid British tourism where you can have a meal with a bottle of wine and 2 flagons of lager for £25 and we are in heaven. What a day. Not even spoilt by climbing relentlessly for 40 minutes followed by a 10 minute finger cramp inducing descent at ridiculous speeds into Sam Sebastion. Even here , where hotels cost £300 a night it was still half the price of France. I am seriously reconsidering my retirement to the Basque area but may renege on this when sober tomorrow.
Andy is full of sh1te with his " fluent Spanish ".
I asked him to find out what time breakfast is tomorrow and he went up to reception and said.
" Buenis Noches, what time is breakfast in the morning? " bluffer.
Heading across the border into France tomorrow. Bonjours all from multilingual Andy.
More tomorrow. APL
Right, ok then, this is it, tomorrow in or out of the EU? If you vote for out me and APL are going to come round to see you. For one thing APL is going to become a Bask nationalist, buy a property here and no doubt enjoy the (let's say) fruits of the region. Today we have found so much to enjoy, about a region that we both previously knew nothing about. This region and these people (putting up with Alan's inside out t shirt and dodgy shorts) are lovely, they are our friends and neighbours.
Sorry, amazing day today, scenery, people, prices of stuff, food, most importantly the bike ride were amazing, let's stay in the EU. AB.
Well done chaps from the Phase 2 team, very envious, sounds exhilarating riding. Even the climbing seems to have been without complaint today and the scenery sounds awesome.
Meanwhile back in Blighty preparations have been moving apace ... the Phase 2 team have met up today, bubble wrap and parcel tape have exchanged hands, and a final 'light' training ride in Derbyshire (30 miles and 3000ft of ascent) undertaken. Never mind the Euro vote, tomorrow will see bikes prepared for flight and panniers carefully packed, weighed, and repacked ...the excitement is building towards the scheduled rendezvous in Bordeaux on Saturday evening .... Liz Well it sounds like you're bobbing along quite nicely there, even with a flat map....
