A momentous day leaving Spain and crossing the border at Hendaye. Immediately to get fleeced by the French for a cold drink. We have become used to laid back Basque seaside towns with cheap food and friendly people and I have to say the riding has gone downhill as well. From yesterday's perfect ride we have today blasted along dual carriageways for mile after mile in 37 degree heat with wagons blasting their horns at us constantly.
Not a good days cycling but the next 2 days promise better as we head north to Bordeaux where Foggy and Compo join us. Heavy rain predicted for tomorrow but it may be a relief after the heat of the last 2 days.
Andy did tell me he lived in Spain for a while but it seems he only picked up 2 phrases. Buenos Noches and Patatas Bravas. The second is a spicy potato accompaniment to your compulsory hamburguesa each night and Andy tried this with the waitress in San Sebastián last night. Her response was " do you mean chips? ". Andy nodded and we moved on.
I will be destroying my ridiculous shorts before Saturday as the Grandparents will possibly laugh themselves into a coronary. Even I have to admit they are the worst garment to Ever see light of day.
Last night we replaced lost body fluids with neat 6% lager and red wine, something I hope never to repeat again. Cycling 70 miles in Saharan temperatures with a beer and crap wine hangover is not recommended but we will be going out in a while so who knows?
No real adventures to report today so I will hand over to Pedro Gonzalez Bowden to close today's blog. Buenos Noches and s Patatas Bravas to you all!!!

Alan loves France, his spiritual home, so it was traumatic for him today that France did not live up to fantastic Basque Spain, or was it? With 30 miles to go, his ears pricked up like a thoroughbred horse, the Lomax legs started spinning like a Catherine wheel, we made rapid progress. Multiple compulsory stops to take on board liquid today. We are informed by people and technology that it is going to rain tomorrow, lies! Will Alan admit that Spain is better than France? Will Alan finally admit that my linguistic skills are superior to his? Will Alan eat his dodgy shorts? Find out here. AB.
We did notice the blog being hacked by Js last night and have inserted a virus into today's blog that will automatically publish a secret photo of Jon in his speedos from 2014 should further hacking occur this evening.
