Oh, hi there. Good to see you.
Well, the last few days have been a bit tiring, I've lost my glasses, been swindled out of 20GBP and my ruck-sack strap has snapped...OH. MY. DAYS...but at the end of the day you win some, you lose some. It's nothing a bit of Snow Patrol, air-con and peoples VERY funny jokes about me eating dog (I genuinelly laughed quite a long time at Hannah's comment and especially at Babs' and Cal's BBQ joke, hahaha) can't fix. Definitely starting to miss people here and hope everyone is keeping well.
RIGHTO, BOYS AND GIRLS...OK, so 'trecking week'...i.e 'trecking 2 days' was absolutely amazing, really very stunning. Google 'Sapa' and look at what I have surrounded by for the past few days, I'm trying to upload photos but the computer is CRUDDDDD...but they should be on FB in the next few days, hopefully.
Almost forgot...we took a night train to Sapa, which was pretty darn cool. Smelly, hot and cramped. 6 tiny beds. 1 tiny room. BUT so cool.
All the sellers in Sapa, made me miss Uganda but it was really cool because they literally all looked like they belong in Peru, really odd but amazing...Makes me want to go to Peru! Haha. One place at a time, I think, haha. On the first day we had the rarity of free time and just spent a few hours walking around the cool market, whilst ladies shouted at us "you buy from meeeeeeeeeeeee?" and "you buy for your wife", haha. One of them now has a very strong dislike towards to me because I wouldn't let one of the girls buy something she didn't want just because she felft guilty, so she followed us all the way backto the hotle shouting "you bad man!" EPIC! Is it a bit ridiculous that I actually really enjoy this fact? BANTER, haha. Also, what BRILLIANT future stories to tell in the future..."Did I ever tell you about the lady who followed me, telling me I was a bad man?" Haha, at least i was sticking upfor someone and another of the people here told he would get his fingers cut off if he didn't buy a wall hanging?! It's simply AWESOME, especially when you then see take there swanky phones out of their bags, ha. But anyway, I'm ranting, so I'll move on.
We also went to a coolio waterall....DULL in comparrison to Murchinson Falls in Uganda but I'm not sure anything will really compare to that, although Sapa was really ver pretty. To get to the waterfall we walked through The Black H'Mong Tribe Village, a lot of people thought it was some fake gimmic...but I, who am much more easily pleased than most, really enjoyed it. Again, made me miss Africa, especially when we went into one of the homes and I completely went in to Ugandan Community Outreach mode...asking questions like "And are they Ok for food?", "What about basins and tools?", haha. I guess after a month of doing it, it's hard to break the rut.
The next day, we did our first day of trecking...Really enjoyable. Jaz changed from teaching to trecking, and was completely happy with her choice because it was just so fun...and less bugs than she thought! I've been suprised with myself, useually I'm actually at the front of the big long line of people but this day a few of us lagged behind to talk to this AWEOSME lady, called Mwa, who was on her way back to the village. It was really interesting talking to her and hearing about her life. She also made us some really cool little things, for example, she made me a horse out of a twig she wrapped round lots of different times and a birds nest out of a bracken leaf! TRES IMPRESSIVE. She also helped us down the huge hill and then we bought some stuff from her at the bottom, which actually wasn't that great, just cool with the story to accompany it.
It's really bad actually, I've already become one of those people whose like..."Oh yah, that totally reminds me of this time on my gap yah...I was in Uganda and..." so I hope you're all looking forward to my dull stories, told OVER and Over again!
We slept in this really cool house/ hostel, made out of wood, with the lovliest man and woman. Really friendly and with a STRONG desire to give all the guests copious amounts of Rice Wine...not good,in all honesty.
The second day of trecking was harder thank the first but even better. As the co-ordinator obviously knows his way around, we got to walk on the rice paddies, rather than the road...admittedly, much to the locals frustration. And when we returned more rice wine! And a bit of swimming before hand...really cold water, made a nice difference to being STUPIDLY warm.
Then, the last day...I've spent sillyamounts of money on identical bracelets, funky trousers and random crud like that...pretty satisfying though.
It has been 2 peple's birthdays this week, so we have been out for pizza and curry, as people are getting a tad bored of rice and spring rolls. On the girls birthday a few of us went and got massages, as I've already told a few people, it was definitely an interesting experience, I spent most of it laughing at the weird positions I was being put in and when I thought I was being dragged off the bed...still pretty darn realxing though.
Final, coolio thing to update youon, the train was delayed for a really long time and one of the co-ordinators took me off the train, to someones house right next to the track and we sat and watched the football...SO cool. I can't imagine 2 strangers knocking on my door and asking to come and watch the football me. Just such a different culture to Britain. The football is on in a few hours here, so I think it's going to be another late night because England is playing!
COOL BEANS. I'm going to stop boring you all now, I'll try and make my last one of these shorter.
Take care everyone. Fell free to e-mail or what not. :):)
