Hello, one and all…How are thou?
Well, this weeks been an odd one….Firstly, I don't think I could feel like much more of a 7 year old; on Monday, I fell over and scraped my elbow and knee, playing 'What's The Time Mr. Wolf?', and then on Tuesday, I sprained my ankle running away from kis trying to catch me, whilst playing 'Bulldog', but have been to the doctors and Im back on track, haha.
Today, we visited a company called 'African Hope for Single Mothers', who help raise money for single mothers aged 20 years and under. We visited an elderly lady of 69, who has been looking after abandoned children for the past ten years, and currently has 13 kids- young ones at that- living with her. The people here really are so strong-willed, it's just incredible. We have visited quite a lot of homes, where they have very little but it's just so incredible getting to visit the homes of actual Africans, rather than just seeing the adverts on TV, the reality is a lot worse, and we've all decided we're going to donate stuff like mosquito nets and clothes.
NO Rob and Matt, there are no "Chikas" that want my number (haha) but today I DID get asked "Mzungu [white person], you want a wife?", and then asked whether I would like some linen trousers….ah GOOOOOD TIMES.
I can't believe I'm leaving a week tomorrow….Sad times….but me and Jaz are VERY excited for Vietnam! And have already decided to be overly-cliché and buy cone hats and go for lots of bike rides, hahah.
This Saturday, I'm going white-water rafting on the nile, in Jinja and am reallllly excited. Then on Sunday (OUR LAST WEEKEND day) we're all off to the zoo in Entebbe, followed by the botanical gardens and then maybe a BIG slice of pizza! Food hasn't really been a problem for me, due to the fact I like really pretty much like EVERYTHING, although Maise is proving a bit of a struggle! Tonight, we're going to go to a place that does food and play 'Who can eat the most disgusting food' game…not sure how well it'll end though, ha ;)
Safari was AMAZING, the journey there and back was an ABSOLUTE struggle, but it felt pretty good to know that whilst most people were there with their parents, we sorted it out pretty much all by ourselves. Murchison Falls literally looked like it should be in a Disney film- and subsequently, me and Jaz sang 'The Circle of Life' all weekend long. We saw, Warthogs, Jackson, Buffalo, Giraffes, Baboons and got SO close to 4 elephants! The guy said he had never seen more than one at once before, so we were REALLY lucky.
Thank you for all the messages, all much appreciated. Thinking of you all, a lot.
To Rob and Matt, I wish I could tell you I miss you but having the same upbringing, I too cannot tell a lie, haha, nah TAKE CARE EVERYONE…and if I don't see you through the week….
:) Andrew
