Hello, one and all, so, currently in Uganda and I think it's safe to say we are all absolutely loving it! The culture, the colour, the people are the most AMAZING people (I have admittedly been shouted at by a few old ladies for taking photos of thier fruit stalls but apart from that) they are all just so genuine and sincere, they tll us we "are most welcome" and seem really gutted when we tell them we are only here for the month. There is a BIG emphahsis on shaking hands, so Dad would like it here!
Unfortuantly, the month we are here is the month that the children are on holiday, so we wont get to teach, but we are running events for them Monday and Tuesday, including games and painting. The kids are SO adorable, they call you "teacher" and they say it in the COOLEST way. Yesterday, I taught them 'Duck, Duck, Goose' which was very funny, good for them as they are HYPER!!!!!! and good for us because it FORCED them ot sit down, haha!
Tommorrow, we start the Outreach Programme, where we go to their houses and assess their needs and see how we can help etc. I'[m expecting this will be VERY hard to witness but it's going to be VERY good for us to do, as although we have only been here a few days, we have already witnessed some of the African tragidies, for example, yesterday one young girl had to bring her baby brother along to the games day, and we are continuously hearing stories of child sacrafice and prostitiution...I really does make you seem spoilt coming from lovely middle-class Oxfordshire, however, the kids are simply BRILLIANT and only show the occasional sign of being down-hearted.
Tommorrow, we wiil have a derum lesson and on Saturday we will be going to Lake Victoria and on the Sunday the church, which me and Jaz are VERY excited about.
All in all, I'm already really enjoying Uganda, the people are simply amazing and some of the places are beautiful.
I will try and upload photos soon, as I don't want to lose them...Until then, dear chaps, I will leave you with a quote which we have been told many a'time....
"When you come to Africa...CONCENTRATE UPON UGANDA". Winston Churchill.
PEACE OUT :)
