A big Australian 'Hello' to you all, one and all. Hope that you are all keeping well and that the summer is a bit warmer than it is here in "sunny Oz" :)
Okay, so I'm pretty sure that I've got lots to update you all on but I'm not overly sure what...and 'Walk The Line'...that truly AMAZING film is on, so I'm sure this will be a bit muddled...but we can do this togehter. ARE YOU WITH ME, CHAPS?
Rightooooooo, on our last day in Sydney me and Harry tried to cram in as much as possible, doing it proper Gap Year styleeeee....we went to The Museum of Australia, the ANZAC war memorial (which was really interesting), we went to the top of the sky-tower and saw the WHOLE city and did some cheesy animated ride where you sit in chairs which rock you around and crush your ribs...genuinelly, I loved it! Before we left, we went to see the Opera house one last time, as we knew we couldn't leave without seeing the iconic image just one more time :) it really is incredible, we went there when it was completely dark and the city was just completely lit up.
We were recommended by our travel agent to spend the day at a place called Coffs Harbour, so at 5am me and Harry got off the Greyhound bus, where the driver told us the beach was just down the road...an HOUR later, heavy bags on our backs, we reached a sign which said "Building site. Beach closed". GUTTED. But we wouldn't let this get us down, we continued walking and finally ended up on a REALLY nice little beach, no-one else was there but anyone who would rarely pass, were really friendly! All would say 'hello' and 'good morning', just realllllllly nice people. I think I may retire here :)
Byron Bay was our next stop. When we rang to book a night we were told we could either check into a dorm or the tee-pee, considering it was FREEEEEZING what do you think me and Harry chose? The tee-pee OF COURSE, well we wanted to do it because it's something we would remember...and we DEFINITELY willl remember it, due to the fact taht it was colder in the tee-pee than outside. I love traveling! haha. It genuinelly was AMAZING, even if I was sleeping with a t-shirt, long sleeved top, cardigan, hoodie and water-proof jacket on...It's ALL part of the experience, yesss??? :) AWESOME
While we were her we did something called the Bush-Tucker walk, where some guy named Cuckatoo Paul took us around the campsite and showed us how we would survive in Australai with no real protection. The guy was an absolute legend! SO cool and new so much. He simply asked for donations at the end, all the money of which goes to the project which he is setting up, where he'll take kids in prison for the last few months of their sentense and take them to his farm and give them jobs to do, teaching them about plants and animals etc. BRILLIANT :)
Oh, also, one evening...it was raining so me and Harry headed for a bar/ resteraunt, where THE most AMAZING singer sung all these Motown songs, like Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5 and Areatha Franklin...it was BRILLIANT, she was one of these large black woman with a HUGE pair of lungs...ah, the MOST AMAZING cliche, that I have ALWAYS wanted to see, and now I have...life is pretty sweet.
Oh, also, SMALL WORLD...whilst we were there, me and Harry hung out with a group of 4 girls for a few nights, one of whom, is not only going to Birmingham, is not only in my halls, is not only in my block BUT is living in the SAME flat as me...3 doors down...How CRAZY is that?! S.M.A.L.L. world!!!!
Brisbane came next. Not really anything to report, as it was rainy and thus we didn't really do much but there was a FREE BBQ one evening...our first Ozzie barbie. :) I wish we could have stayed a little longer in Brisbane and did a bit more...but there's always next time.
Next came the reall quaint liitle town if Noosa, which was BRILLIANT. I have to admit, I LOVED Sydney...a lot...but my favourite places so far are definitely the small little towns, they're just brilliant and there's still SO Much to do. Randomly we bumped into the girls again and one day, we went on a long Coastal Walk, which was stunning, we decided to sit down on a hillside for a while and we saw LOADS of dolphins go past...I love Australia! :D It was so cool seeing all these majestic wild animals. Later, me and Harry were scrambling around, cimbing some rocks (in the good ol' 7 year old fashion) and we saw a turtle swim to the top of the water and it was SO close. I really like the animals here, a turtle conservation may have to be my next project!
We headed to Hervey Bay fir Fraser Island on Saturday, at our hotel, no-one was there so we had to wander around trying to find someone to give us our keys for our room...another memorable experience! haha. We left early to travel across the water to the famous Fraser Ilsand...it was AMAZING, our tour guide was a real nut-case, who kept laughing at his own jokes...it was epicly cool! On the second day, I sat at the front of the bus with him, which was really cool. We saw loads of dingos. Me and Harry also paid to get a plane ride around the island, which was pricey but cool, got to see lots. We also saw loads of whales swimming really close to the island.
The island itself was BEAUTIFUL...it looked like it was part of some compuer programme, clear blue water and literally white sand. Perfection.
Currently in the small town of 1770, probably my favourite place yet. It's TIIIIIIIIIINY. Really cool hostel, REALLY cool people. Today has beena bit wet, so me and Harry have ahad a rea;;y nice relaxed day, doing little jobs and watching films...something I never really had time to do this year at home, so it's been brilliant. This evening we decided to walk to a lookout point across the water but by the time we were ready to leave it was pitvh black and we had to find our way through a really spooky forest, which was pretty fun. I think we're going to do a surfing lesson tomorow which we're looking forward too and maybe some kayaking the day after.
LOVING OZZZZZZZZZZ.
Oh, almost forgot, me and Harry did a 14,00ft sky-dive...ABSOLUTE rush...not every-day you fall out of a plane :):) Reccommend it to EVERYONE.
So yeah, nothing else to report as of yet. Really enjoying it here but also get excited whenever I think of home :)
Thanks eveyone for listening to my rambles. Hope everyone is taking care.
Take care all. Andrew :)
