Next day I went to the hermitage. The line was really slow. Inside the place is massive. I didn't take a lot of pictures. You can google its treasures. But I thought it was just art. They have masks for horses, socks and braided hair from 3-4 c. B.c. Suits of armor. Damascus steel. I read somewhere that their collection was greatly enhanced when they confiscated stuff during the Russian revolution. Maybe some their stuff belongs to my family.
After about four hours I felt like I'd made a pretty good dent in the place. Cooled my heels at a Subway. Six inch or footlong, they ask. Eventually made my way to the opera. Beauriful.
Next day, fought crowds to get to the hydrofoil to the Peterhoff, I think that's the summer palace? Everyone was gathering for victory day. At the Peterhoff, band's playing, air shows, and a place that rivals Versailles. Back by bus and then through the metro, where I avoided getting lost. Wow is it deep underground!
Next day, that was yesterday, took a bus to veliky Novgorod, the first Capitol of Russia. Saw a bunch of reasonably priced watches in the bus station, but of course the place was closed even though they were supposed to be open.
I like novgorod. Pretty, much slower than stP. I went out late last night for dinner but they'd already rolled up the sidewalks. Got bread and cheese and such from the yhnbepcam (ooneeveersahm) - supermarket, which has no toiletries & had a picnic in my room. Today back to the department store by the river which broadcasts loud blues, like Clapton, Hendrix, into the park - to see about a watch. Then tonight the overnight train to Mockby (Mahskvoo).
Still working on my itinerary for Ireland. Any experts out there?

Me When you say polluted, you mean drunk, right?
beachbunny hey, anj, i think **I** need the vodka...i'm soooo envious of your trip! you're livin' the life!!!
Jennifer Siu No expert on Ireland but I have a friend who lives there....and another friend who is there right now working his way around the island and eventually will travel to Paris, etc.
Jennifer Siu One of these days your blog is going to ask me to "solve a sum" that I can't answer....I'm frightened!
ruby The last time I was in Ireland was when you were living in England-too long ago for me to remember the names of some places that I would like to tell you about. I think you can google a piece I wrote about it in the Pittsburgh Herald Tribune . I rented a car and spent almost a month driving around the country from Dublin north to Malin Head, the northern most point, and down the coast to Galway where my ancestors are from. then back to Dublin. I spent most of my time lost, much of it in pubs. I was invited to go fishing, into homes for meals and to look at art, to sing, to dance and to get married! It rained frequently. Kenny's bookstore in Galway is a treasure trove. the castles are mostly remains, but have great stories.. I found the ship records of my gr-grandparents to America. How lucky we are to be able to visit the lands of our ancestors. Was you granpa a pirate? If you had decided to end your trip in Russia you could have met me in Mongolia or China.
