We arrived into Lombok on the 26/02/07. We stayed on the south of the Island at a place called Kuta. Kuta is really a place to go if you are into surfing and me and Peter are not into surfing so there was not a lot to do. On the monday we went for a walk around to see what there was. Kuta is a very small town that consists of a few places to stay and a really nice beach. On the Tuesday we rented motorcycles so we could explore the Island a bit more. In hindsight not the safest thing to do with Peter as he fell off his bike into a puddle, fell off on a steep hill and nearly went flying into somones house. All the locals started laughing and cheering at him as he regained control before he hit the house, very funny. Peter was alright but the rented motorcycle did suffer some damage. We had the bikes for about 5 hours. We headed into the centre of the Island so see what there was and as we started to head back to Kuta the heavens opened we had to get some shelter under a cow hut. The locals saw 2 tourists had stopped close by so a few of them came out and asked us for cigarettes and money. Little kids who can barely speak a word of English but yet they know how to say "give me some money". Once the rain subsided we headed back to our hotel. We didn't get up to a lot at night time just watched dvds. On the wednesday we headed to Ghilli Tarawanga a small island North east of Lombok. On Ghilli there are no motorised vehicles, no police and no atms. You can walk round the island in about an hour and to they have horse and cart as their transport. It is a really laid back place. We didn't get up to much on Ghilli, watched a lot of dvds and English football. I went diving on the friday as I had not been for about a month. The dive was brilliant. The ocean was so clear it seemed like you could see for miles and the coral and fish were amazing. The dive was supposed to last about an hour but 40 minutes into it we saw a white fin coral shark. I had never been so close to a shark it was pretty cool. But i did get a bit worried and started breathing quickly which meant my air went quicker then everyone elses so the dive had to be cut short. It rained for the last 2 days and their is absolutely nothing to do on Ghilli when it rains. Luckily on the saturday we had a full day of English football to watch. We left Ghilli on the sunday as we had to catch our flight to Australia on sunday night. We are currently in Melbourne.
