Hello!
Day two has been amazing!
We got up this morning and got dressed for the hill right away. Our hotel is SUPER convenient in terms of location, and we can walk right out and around the corner to the main lift. It's great.
It was a super sunny day without a cloud in the sky. We are so bummed there isn't more snow, but if it's not going to be sunny then it may as well be a beautiful warm day like today! :-) We sort of spent the day riding anything we could find and learning our way around the mountain.
I will say this: Crested Butte has got some STEEP s***! We cannot wait to go back and hit some of the extreme terrain when everything is open.. it looks insane. Insanely delicious. I want to share some mountain info with you:
"THE EXTREME LIMITS, unique to Crested Butte, this kind of skiing is the perfect way to enhance your powder technique. The extreme limits are not for everyone. This is true double-black diamond terrain as serious and demanding as you'll find in-bounds at any ski area in North America. While this area is avalanche controlled, it is ungroomed. Watch for rocks, trees and other natural hazards and be responsible. May be closed at any time due to avalanche hazard, snowpack stability considerations and adverse conditions."
"Extreme terrain- the ski safety act describes this terrain as cliffs with a minimum 20 foot rise over a 15 foot run and slopes with a minimum fifty degree average pitch over 100 foot run. "
Isn't that beautiful? This mountain is designed to hold unbelievable "back-country" terrain that is totally in bounds. This honestly may be one of my favorite places..
This mountain is a 12er at its highest point and typically gets an AVERAGE snowfall of 300+ inches!
Today we took the SilverQueen lift up to the top and hit most of the runs on both sides. Over on the East River Express side, there are two advanced black diamond mogul runs, and an intermediate mogul run. There was a big sign warning us of the conditions on the black, but we went ahead and gave it a shot.... haha.. what an adventure. Tough moguls-hard and icy in spots... rocks and trees everywhere. Challenging and fun though!
Best run of the day was a little back trip down ruby road to the Jokerville and Twister black diamond mogul runs... these fed into some blue and green cruisers, but were really nice to ride out.
Messed with the camera a little. Got some shots on some of the smaller runs. More to follow!
Had lunch at the paradise warming hut.. fun! :-) Mid mountain relaxation.. perfect.
Finished the day with some coffee from my new fave little coffee shop. Going to get ready for dinner a little later... we are headed to Le bosquet- a cute french place in town, and then ice skating! More pics and dinner updates to follow.
XO-
Andrea
