OK so I have finally reached Shangri la. For the past three days I have been to Lijiang and on a two day hike to the Tiger Leaping Gorge.
Lijiang was a beautiful little city...I stayed in old town where all the architecture is preserved. Unfortunatly it was a wee bit of a tourist trap. But really, everything is in CHina. The gorge treak was really the reason for coming however. It was AMAZING!!! I managed to hook up with two other hikers, Eve a girl from Belgium, and Marties, a fellow, Canuk from Montreal. (He likes to chase chickens...don't ask) But, we are getting along so well, we decided to head up to Shngri la together, So, really I'm not technically on my own at all. ( I told you you never really are when you travel) But, anyway, the gorge. It was AMAZING!!!!! I'll get the pics up eventually.... It was however the single place in china where I have run into snakes. And not just one but three! One of which was freaking huge and apparently poisonous. So, mental note, watch for snakes in China. we treaked for about 6 hours the first day. Along the way I tried some local honey tea an old woman was selling (she also happened to be selling Gonjia by the way) But the tea was delicious! She gave you a single chopstick to help you sift through the tea leaves and wax as you drank it....mmm wax....
The second day it rained a bit but we got some nice scenery with all the clouds, and mist. So, now I am in Shangri la. So, far for the 1 hour that I have been here, I have noticed that it is basically a tibetien town...and Yak rule here. They seem to just randomly wander around...it's kinda cute...
Again I will follow with pictures and a much more entertaining blog...after I sleep...
