Hong Kong...aka VORTEX OF DOOM!!!!
Must be short but sweet as Hong Kong is uber expensive and internet time is ticking away. After taking the 12 hour "sleeper" bus (pictures to follow) for 15 hours, we arrived in Shenzhen, to then go through a slightly confusing boarder crossing into Hong Kong proper.
Unfortunatly we just happened to arrive during a typoon. Fancy that. Basically we got rained on a lot, it was apparently a Gale force of 8 and everything was shut down. We managed to find our hostel ok (...another story for later) and bedded down early for the night. Now, everything is buisness as usual. So no worries for any who were concerened (although I doubt this was news worthy for the other side of the globe) I'll up date at the next city! Bye for now!
Ok, I'm officially out of Hong Kong and on my own now. Bye Kaitlin!!!! Sniff sniff it was fun travleing with you and I swear I never had one homicidal moment. I can't wait to see you again in a few months.
So....Hong Kong, Arrived during a Typoon, Uber expensive, but it was still a fun city. We stayed in the Miradoor Mansions. If you have seen the pics you can see there is no sugar coating them. They aren't the swankiest of hostels but they are the most affordable in Hong Kong, and they still aren't cheap by China standards.(The most expensive we have paid for actually) As bad as the outside looked...and the hallway, our actual room wasn't as seedy. Sure, the wall paper was that ugly pink floral color, and the TV remote didn't work. But the rooms of the hostel were locked off from the rest of the building, and then our room itself was further locked. Either way, as long as we were secured in our rooms by 10 at night we felt safe enough.
What did we actually do in Hong Kong, well, we went to the markets! One of which was the bird market (I know not one of our better ideas what with the whole bird flu thing...) Then we went to the flower market, this clothing market, the fish market, and the Lady's market. Much shopping was had by all!!!
I Also hope everyone got to see at least part of the opening for the olymipics! Now you understand just how crazy it is here....
All right it's bed time for me now. Oh and just to let you all know I'm currently in Guangzhou, which is a city about 2 hours from Hong Kong. I have to wait here, because apparently train tickets have to be bought 4 days ahead, of the travel date which is fine, except you can only buy tickets from the same province your traveling from, thus ensureing you have to be in the sma eprovince for at least 4 days...so here I am. Night!
