We stopped off in Nha trang for a night to break our journey up, however it was clear we wouldn't have wanted to stay longer as it seemed like a cheesy party town full of westerners. We spent the morning on the beach and the afternoon in a lovely restaurant eating italian before catching the overnight sleeper bus. This was certainly an experience as d*** was too long for the seats and we were crammed in like sardines, if you want to recreate the experience, lay under your coffee table for 12 hours with someone shaking it! It was a bumpy ride.
We arrived in Hoi An which is a beautiful French looking town on the riverside and close to the coast. It's full of tailor shops and restaurants. We did find we got pestered a lot more here but soon got used to it. The evening we arrived we went on a Vietnamese cookery class, we learnt to cook Vietnamese spring rolls, a yummy beef salad and BBQ'd fish in a marinade.
On our second day we were pleasantly surprised by Mel and Tom who had come back from Thailand to find us so spent the rest of the day drinking 10p pints of beer!
The four of us decided we would travel to the north of Vietnam together. next stop was Hue, another sleeper bus away! We arrived and found ourselves a lovely hotel room with two double beds and balcony for $5 each a night, quite a bargain. We hired mopeds here and drove through the countryside to the beach where we ate some amazing seafood and went swimming.
Next stop Hanoi!

Yumiko We had the pleasure of being on the same trip as Rose and tltoaly agree with all her comments. We learnt so much about the country and the history and culture, had a truly authentic experience rather than touristy one combined with an awesome ride through some amazingly diverse geographical areas. I never expected Vietnam to contain so many different landscapes, it was a delightful surprise at every turn. Everything went so smoothly and we did not have to worry about anything. Plenty of fun times and good local food along the way as well. The gorgeous Vespas were a pleasure to ride, whether we were tearing along good roads or dodging pot holes and bullock carts. We felt connected to the journey in a way that you just done experience otherwise. Definitely up for the next chapter and the road further north. .
Jain Hey guys! Hope you are all well and business is good. Just dronpipg a line to say we are still keen to do a northern ride say Da Nang to Hanoi some time next year and have heard from Rose and Dan and Fran and Jamal that they are keen to get on board as well. Probably Mark and Lee will also when they hear we are having a reunion ride! So start planning an itinerary for the ride north. Pete will need another six months or so to recover from his recent illness and then we are good to go. We have travelled a bit in recent years but still rate our Vietnam Adventure as one of our favourites together.
