Hi ya'll!
So I'm actually in Rio atm but thought I should fill you in on Ilha Grande first! We gapped it there from Paraty on Monday as it was on the way to Rio. The trip seemed pretty simple (walk to the bus station, bumpy bus ride, little ferry ride) but ended up taking majority of the day.
The weather was a bit drizzly when we left Paraty. Had a nice walk to the station with one of the homeless dogs (there were a lot of them around Paraty, very cute dogs but homeless which was sad) and then a CRAZY bus ride to the ferry. By the time we reach the island the "tropical rain" was pissing down. Minus 1 cool point to Ilha Grande.
Managed to find our hostel which was very 'in touch' with nature. Frogs in the garden, giant rats (though we were lucky not to witness this!) and mossies EVERYWHERE.
We rocked our waterproof jackets again and ventured out to find some dinner. Oh, and I forgot to mention! In the morning when we left, we were meant to be travelling with our new buddy Franco! But he was no where to be found. So now, half a day later, on a random island, walking down a back road ankle deep in water and in the pouring rain, who do we bump into???? Franco! Lol. Random.
Had a yummy (and cheap) dinner with him then mished it back to the hostel. Woo. Kept raining all the next day and night which was gutting as there was heaps to do on the island and this was one of my main things I wanted to do over here - walk (3hours) to Lopes Mendez beach! One of the nicest beaches in Brazil (in the photo above). But obviously not worth doing in the pouring rain! We managed to do a bit of a bush walk and see some ruins etc. Have learnt (well, I already knew...) that I am not a nature girl!!!
Decided to gap the island this morning and now I am in RIO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Excite!
But will blog on that when I have more to write :) :) :)
xxxx
p.s. just to make you all jealous, had the most amazing free breakfasts at the hostel on the island (Add the cool points back to Ilha Grande). Seriously, like bread, cereal and the usual stuff then YUM food like giant slices of fresh fruit, fresh juice (mango and watermelon!!) and CAKE! That's right guys, Brazilians have cake for breakfast! Boo-ya!
