Hi all,
How is everyone going? I am writing from Paraty in Brazil, 4 hours out of Rio. So yes, we finally made it.
Basically our mission was to get from Puerto Iguazu to Paraty. The method: 5 busses and one taxi. Status: Complete.
Left Iguazu at 8.30am (after finding out we had earlier been duped by our taxi driver in Argentina who managed to swiftly swap our hundred peso bill to a fake one!) and caught a little bus to Foz de Iguaçu (Brazilian side). During this ride we had to clear customs and so we were dropped off our bus in the middle of nowhere on the border for us to go through customs and then wait for our second bus. From here we got to Foz and met a nice young man at the bus stop who worked at the main bus depot. He helped us find our way there and even book tickets ! Nice!
The bus to Sao Paulo was next (bus number 3) and was 16 hours! So not as long as the one we did in Argentina, but definately was different! It seems that Brazilians (from first impression) do not tend to sleep much. It was an overnight bus again and my god! Everyone was so loud and crazy! We were a bit of a novelty I think and a few people kept trying to talk to us which was amusing but a bit strange and definately lost its amusement value when it was 3am!
Anyway, we're here and the hostel is sweet. Very small and super cute. Cool atmosphere and right opposite the beach! Woooop!
Paraty is a small heritage town and everything is colonial and old school. VERY cute buildings etc only drawback is that the roads are cobblestoned (and not like your typical English cobblestones but giant mofos!) but on the bright side I figure its a good work out whilst walking over them haha!
Had a bbq dinner (with veges! yay!) last night and went to town for a (overpriced) drink with our roomies (two flemmish girls) and also two others from the hostel (one I might add, looks like Brendion from the Mex for those of you who know. Just add about 10 years and a Spanish accent and booyah, you have our new travel buddie Franco lol).
We drank caipirinhas (my favourite drink) which I was super excited about - having the real deal etc, but zomg they were pretty potent! And expensive once we left the hostel, but we had guessed that abou Brazil ... Today we got in some good quality sunshine hours at the beach and then had the best meal we've had all trip which was, again, the most expensive. But well worth it! Even if it means we can't eat for another week to stay on budget hahahah
Going to Ilha Grande tomorrow which was on my list of top 3 places I wanted to visit over here, so am very excited. Hopefully net access will be cheaper over there so I can message you.
Anyways, hope you're all well.
Lots of love, Amiee
p.s. Congrats to Ash! love love love xxxx
