Sa wat di kha!!
Hope you sre all well, having a great time in Bangkok but getting itchy feet to move on lol, trip starts on Thursday so looking forward to that!!!
Managed to see quite a bit over the last few days, got my map out & did some proper sightseeing lol!
so, made my way from Banglamphu where im staying to Ko Ratanakosin, not too far roughly a 45-50 minute walk, to see The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew & Wat Pho. So glad i did, was an amazing thing to see. Wat Phra Kaew ( a Wat is a temple ) is the temple that houses the Emerald Buddha, and is Thailands holiest temple. The buildings were absoloutely stunning, some of them covered in 18 carat gold, others in gold leaf, and mostly all covered in mirrors and brightly coloured gemstones...photos to come i promise!!!
Strict dress code for the temples, even more so in Wat Phra Kaew, wasnt even allowed to wear open toed shoes so had to go buy new shoes...damn lol and you have to have long sleeves on and long trousers, so you can imagine in 40 degree heat that was pleasant lol!!
then onto the Grand Palace which used the be the main royal residence but its only used for certain cereonies now, also a beautiful building, very eh...grand lol!!!
Then onto Wat Pho, this temple has the largest collection of buddha images in all of Thailand, again very beautiful to see, and also is home to the thailands famous Reclining Buddha! This 46metre long and 15metre high figure really is some sight!
To get to these places you pass the ministry of defence buildings, also a very grand affair, big placards with photos of the king & queen on everywhere, the Thais are very protective of their monarchy not a bad word is to be said against them.
So, after enough images and figurines of buddha to last me a lifetime and sore feet from all the walking in new shoes...decided it was time to try a Thai Massage! wow, this wasnt the nice relaxing massage you'd be used to from our lovely karen, it was more like a workout!! the therapist was about 5 foot if she was lucky and as strong as a horse!! anyhoo, you leave a little sore but definetely worth it, i'll be back!!!
Thats pretty much what ive been up to the last few days, wandered through my fair share of markets, not really got the bargaining technique that they expect you to do with them to lower the price down to a fine art yet but i'll be a pro come the end of my trip lol! some lovely jewelery from the markets, pretty much most if not all hand made by the girls who are selling it. None of the street vendors are allowed to trade on a monday so very quiet on the streets today!!
I'll try gt some photos uploaded soon, keep in touch, missing everyone xxxxx
