One Voyage to India
Wow! Life is a whirlwind... I'll have to just copy and paste part of the letter I wrote to my parents here, as I'm on a severe time budget!! Ashram life is amazing, and I am so happy to be a part of the Sivananda Yoga Teaching Training Course. Come to India to visit me!
The parental update:
Here I am in Uttarkashi finally writing you a message! I arrived at the ashram late Saturday evening, and was met with a nutritious hot meal and a warm welcome. I found the first few days trying with some back pain and frustration, but have since recovered marvelously and am enjoying each moment as it comes. Fridays are our free day, so we made a field trip to the nearest town (Uttarkashi) to visit temples and catch up with family and friends over the internet and telephone. The public phones where the ashram is (about 10km from here, in Netala) are not operational, so this is the first time in nearly one week that many of us have had any contact with loved ones. It's been nice to have a break from technology (even the electricity wavers in the ashram), but I have been eager to check my email to hear from everyone back home. I don't have much time to write, so I will end soon, but I hope you are all very well and happy. I am doing fantastic and am so grateful to be here! The weather has been beautiful and the scenery incredible... I can't begin to describe to you the feeling of waking up in a valley deep in the Himalayas. The mist hangs over the mountains in the morning like a white veil... and the emerald green ganges river is forever washing over the rich grey sparkling sands (much darker than the white sands I'm used to). The villagers are so friendly... always clad in brightly coloured, flowing clothing and negotiating the winding paths that carve the mountains. The weight they carry on their small frames is unfathomable--the ponies with bricks in tow even more so. The ashram itself is a serene, humble space... clay and stone with mature gardens and amiable staff. The food is really tasty and the group of students inspiring... we are all learning so much from each other! There are people from all over the world in the program... brazil, germany, phillippines, spain, portugal, iran, england, USA, australia, holland, malaysia and japan to name a few. ------- I'm sad to cut it so short, but I'm holding up the line! There are very few computers in the cyber cafe here.... easily outnumbered by all the homesick yogis hoping to read long-awaited messages! So much love to you all!!!- comments
