Before I talk about my journey, I figure I should redeem myself... offexploring.com may have been a poor choice for a travel blog. The layout is funny and the 'stock pictures' irritating (prefer my own), BUT, it maps my travels and also syncs/is compatible with Facebook somehow. That and I have neither the time nor the patience to setup a different account using an internet connection in a dinky little internet cafe in Delhi. Although, I'm incredibly grateful to have access to the internet, and at such a good price! Rs40 per hour... which is about 50 cents!
I can't promise much at this point... my back is aching from sitting so much (ie. 12 hour flight), and dairy is proving most difficult to avoid here. Thus, I'm quite uncomfortable from both a gastro-intestinal and chiropractic point-of-view.
Where to start... the taxi ride from the airport was memorable. As I was having some money exchanged, a fellow lady-traveller tapped me on the shoulder, wondering if I would like to share a taxi. Having already arranged for airport pickup with Namaskar Hotel (thanks-, Ryan!), I asked her if she was okay with being dropped at my hotel. Smiling warmly, she replied yes, and within minutes we were beyond customs. We searched for my name amongst the congested crowd of drivers holding white signs bearing the names of mostly Western travellers... and found mine, written by hand-not printed like most others, as Allyson Gohbi. Several minutes later we were speeding down a busy Delhi highway, dodging cars, auto-rickshaws and motorbikes... although the latter was barely dodged as a sudden halt sent the car behind us smashing into our right tail light. Either Indian vehicles are built like bumper cars or dents and scrapes are trivial, because neither driver seemed upset about the 'accident'. I, evidently, then discovered there was a reason for all the broken and bent rearview mirrors (or total lack thereof)... feel better, Sarah? (; The ride, however, did not end without more trouble, as Moa (my Swedish friend from the airport) and I sat (impatiently) through two breakdowns and finally the makeshift repair of our vehicle.
Whoa! Look at the time. To be continued. Gotta run! So much love to everyone!
