YAY, WE HAVE SUNSHINE
Not today though, hence me blogging but the above is chaweng beach in action where james and I have spent the last few days sunbathing and catching up on reading. lunch has been sweetcorn for me and meat on a stick for James. they cook everything in front of you and my sweetcorn was so lovely and buttery and salty that my greed got me a burnt bottom lip.
Because the weather has been a bit stormy of late, Chaweng beach was a bit of a tip at first. Litter and debris scattered the usually white, sandy shores mostly brought in by the sea, the waves were fierce too, making it hard to take a dip and simply relax. However, the last 2 days it remained calm and surreal, like a beach should be.
i shouldnt moan about the weather though as at least we escaped the floods of November where water levels where chin height. i have seen the photo's to prove it. Also, our friends from our Vietnamese days (oh that seems so long ago now) were on one of the Thai Islands around this time and their Hotel closed down completely cause the staff couldnt get to work. they had to break into some of the empty rooms around the complex for fresh linen and towels. Then they got barred from the only restaurant available for complaining about the food. Ha, 26 days they had to persevere until they called it a day and flew to indonesia instead.
i am currently sitting in The Wave on chaweng Beach Road, our usual haunt for internet and blogging. Occasionly that "smell of the east" sweeps by but apart from that downside the Chaweng beach Road is alive with tourists combing the small stalls and shops that scatter along it. There are so many eateries along here that it would be impossible to go hungry and the food everywhere we have been so far has been good. I find it very different to the food we had last time we were here and traevlling around Bangkok, Hua Hin and Choeng Mon (in Koh Samui). i think the food here in Chaweng is suited to tourist tastes rather than typical Thai although James is experiencing some fabulous curries.
the road is on a one way system and every 5 minutes there is a car that drives by playing the Rocky training tune advertising any Thai boxing that is on that evening. its so flamin annoying that I am removing the song from any playlist I may have it on. (I dont actually have the song by the way)
Oh and we are officially regulars of that bar we told you about, The Duke. we know the staff, the band, the manager and we get 10% off the bill for being regulars. James is in his element as he says he has never been a "local" anywhere.
The only downside to this week is that I picked up another stomach bug, worse than I had in India so i have had 2 very sober days. in fact 1 night I stayed in I felt so bad and i let James go to our local without me. "I'll only have a couple" he said before shutting our front door at 9pm. 2am he rolled in. He had been propping up the bar with another man who is alocal at The Duke and the manager getting all the gossip and telling all my favourite Thai Ladies (The staff) about my tummy troubles. When we got there last night (I stuck to water) there were jokes to on whether I was okay now or whether they needed a mop and bucket and a lot of sympathetic sighing from the girls. Its a good job I like this place ;0)
Anyways, to summarise, i love it here and could easily stay here for months at a time. the people are great, food fab but weather needs improvement. Oh and the Thai boys are beautiful. they beat Thai girls hands down.
