So ive been pretty crap at updating this but good at updating my diary so were all good.
Obviously I got here safely :)
When I arrived in Bangkok there was definitely a "what the f*** am I doing moment" but I got over it lol.
It was quite surreal coming out the terminal and there's loads of Thai men and women waving names at you, I shook my head, but they still waved names like 'pong chin-wah' and 'Ben Jackson' at me! "yep that's me" lol.
Anyway found my taxi, and he told me to get out off Bangkok and up north as soon as possible lol. Seems no-one thinks much of Bangkok, but apparently there's like 13million people here and it's really not that big lol.
Got out my taxi at the hostel and the heat just overcomes you, it just never seems to cool down even after the rain. I've spent all day sweating but everyone is exactly the same so it doesn't really bother me. It is different here though cause it doesn't make you feel out of breath or anything.
First night here I just threw myself into it and went and sat with a boy from Sweden! I am starting to realise how awful I am with names so can't tell you what he's called. Then a Canadian girl called missy and two guys from England called Michael and Kneale came and sat with us. Then some more people came and sat with us, but I'm soon starting to realise how quickly people come in and out your life while travelling. Two girls left for Cambodia today so only met them for one night.
Me, Michael and Kneale went and got Thai massages today, they're definitely more painful than relaxing but you did feel good afterwards. We went to Wat Pho where the Thai massages originated. Then we went to see the reclining buddha, it is massive! Really is impressive. The smells here are just insane. As pretty as I'm sure pictures will look, the smell is what makes this place.Every few feet you get a different intake of a new spice or herb.
Then we got a little lost walking back but at least I'm getting exercise right? My first meal was rice, broccoli and duck which was really yummy, I got a lemon ice tea with it as well and it cost 65 baht so basically 1.20. Crazy over here.
Then in the evening I met two girls from England, Holly and Emma, and Dave from England as well. We all decided to go to khao San road the next day and check out the hype.
But that evening me, Kneale, missy and Dave went to this night market called patpong. It's a market in the middle and then the outer lanes are just sex shows haha. We went in a bar for a drink and there was a Thai band doing covers of nirvana and led zeppelin, really bizzare. Then we saw a man of about 65 with a young Thai girl of about 15, who he had clearly rented for the night, and it was just disturbing to see them dancing together. So we left; I appreciate it's part of what Thailand's all about but I thought Dave was gonna smack the guy so leaving was best.
When we got back to the hostel, holly and Emma had made friends with an American guy called Adam, who was gonna join us tomorrow.
The hostel I'm staying at is so clean and just a really good hostel with amazing pad Thai over the road for like 80p. Really is a perfect hostel to stop at for my first few nights.
Hope everyone is okay, really enjoying it so far.
