Woke up this morning to find out that at midnight the Tongarra volcano had erupted for the first time in 100years.... And that of course this volcano was pretty close to where we were staying. Luckily, the wind was blowing the other way so all the ash got blown that way and the damage had also fell the other side so we were okay to carry on going.
We were heading down to Wellington today, which is the capital city and is where we would get our ferry to take us to the south island.
We got there and Amanda took us up to a really good lookout point where again we posed for some more stupid pictures. Then we went up on a cable car to the top of the botanical gardens here and walked back down to the city through the gardens which were really pretty.
The rest of the night was pretty standard with us getting a cheap meal of pizza and cider and then just chatting in the bar before going to bed as our shuttle to the ferry was at 6:50.
We said bye to Vanessa that night as she was just doing the north island and 5 became 4.
