The day is finally here... I'd always wanted to do this trip and had a rough idea of where I wanted to go but what really made me get off my arse and begin saving was by definitely watching 'into the wild' which could be an odd choice but I just loved the freedom he had and how beautiful Alaska looked so that was when I decided to add Alaska to my trip and here I am, getting on a flight to Alaska!!
I felt sick with excitement flying there and as we got closer you could see all the mountains and snow, it looked so beautiful. I got to my pre-departure hotel as this is where we all had to meet for our 7day tour/trek to begin tomorrow and knew I'd be sharing a room but for some odd reason I was sharing with someone who had just finished the trip... Which was good to ask about the trip but I also was looking forward to meeting someone off my tour.
Anyway, I'd arranged through the treks website to meet a guy on the same trek as me in the lobby at 7. I met Ross from London who seemed like a nice guy and we went to Humpy's to get something to eat; Humpy's is one of the main places to drink/eat in Anchorage and it was also on Man Vs. Food so I was pretty excited to go there.
They're most famous for the crab that they serve and so I decided to get that, it cost me $25 for one leg haha, but was good crab so didn't mind too much. We had a couple of drinks and listened to a live band they had on there and then I headed back to the hotel because I was tired. On the way back I saw some sort of police chase with 12 police cars all zooming past me and then some tramp shouted at this shop assistant and told her to tell the police to leave him alone: they weren't even following him, crazy guy.
America certainly was interesting so far. ...
