Life can be so hard, atleast so I seem to remember!
I have moved north quickly from the Whitsundays. I stayed there in Airlie beach which was very beautiful, the hostel overlooked the beach and was surrounded by exotic trees and birds.
I took an overnight bus to Cairns which was mush hotter and very humid, it turns out that this was good training for Darwin. I was put in a dorm of four, one was Deb Matthews from Newport, quite a close neighbour!! Overnight in Cairns there were dramatic thunderstorms, very exciting, but worried my flight would be cancelled! Cairns looked worth a longer visit, may be next time.
Travel to Darwin was hitch free. I'm not sure if this is a tourist board strategy but we were treated to some tropical wet season weather on arrival. We were very lucky to leave on our tour of Kakadu. This is a national park which is joint managed by government agents and local Aboriginal people, fortunately the govnt are in the minority. Management of the park aims to preserve native flora and fauna and traditional culture, it seems, from my short visit to be making a pretty good job of both. We returned to Darwin overnight before heading for Alice Springs, the weather is even more authentic this time, a cyclone is heading this way so I get more idea of what rain really can be!!
I have spent a relaxing day in Alice and now need to get ready for a trip around "the red centre". I think the temperature will be tooooo much for me but i should spend christmas at Uluru, I hope to have some decent pictures soon!!!
Have a really great Christmas and New Year
