Alison's African Adventure
Hello!!! Gone on two countries since my last email!!
After leaving Vic Falls we drove to the border with Botswana and travelled to the Chobe NP where we went on a game cruise down the Chobe River, we saw Elephants and Hippos and other game. Nothing really campares to the Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania tho so we are a bit spoilt now when it comes to game viewing. We turned it into somewhat of a booze cruise down the river which was really nice. Having a cool beer drifting along the river and watching the sun set, just idyllic.
Then we did a drive day west across Botswana to the Okavango Delta. This was certainly and experience and a half. We drove down to the Delta where we were put into two man Mokoros, (a dug out canoe) and then poled across the Delta to our campsite. We had to put our tents so close together we were practically all on top of each other in this tiny clearing. We were told that we didnt need the nice water we had collected from Vic Falls and that the Delta water was fine to drink, however when you looked at it it was yellow. Everyoune drank it tho i was the only one who put tablets into mine, dont fancy these lovely worms that live in the water out here!!!! They also forgot to mention the mice that were absoluetly everywhere. Everywhere you walked you could see at least 5 of the fat b*****s scurrying along!!!! They were in our food and we had no stools to sit on for the whole three days so the bold ones would run over your feet and the mats we were sat on!!! we didnt see much game, lots of Zebra a few wildebeest and some Giraffe but apart from that not much else. I was a good experience on the whole, still washing the dirt out of everything i took to the Delta! Never been so filthy in all my life!
After leaving the Delta we stayed for one more night in Botswana before yesterday crossing over the border into Namibia. We bush camped last night (illegal in Namibia) and drove to Windhoek this morning and finally civilisation!!!!! Yeah!!! Seen dual carrigeways, road markings, traffic lights, and a KFC!!!! Really strange trying to cross the road today, nearly been run over several times, just cos im used to bolting whenever there is a gap in the traffic, but now there are junctions and all sorts of other obstacles to contend with!!!! Said goodbye to my tent buddy Claire this morning, she is off to Cape Town so i finally get a tent to myself and a bit of privacy!!!! We are off out tonight to a classy Beer House called Joes to have some steaks and of course sample some Windhoek Lager!!!
Gonna do a bit more exploring of Windhoek now so will hopefully post again in a couple of days!!!
