Alison's African Adventure
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!!!!!!
Hello everyone!!
I am in Swakopmund atm and still having a wicked time. The last time I emailed I think I was in Windhoek. Since then we have done a few more bushcamps and then we went into Etosha NP. We have seen loads of game, tons of giraffe, elephant, impala, zebra, wildebeest, and even two Black Rhinos which we nearly ran over in the truck!!! We stayed there for 2 nights at separate campsites and it was lovely. They had hot water, clean showers, western toilets and even a swimming pool and a shop!!!! (im so glad I did the trip from Nairobi to Cape Town and not the reverse cos it would have been really harsh if I started with all these luxuries!!!)
We then went to a Cheetah Park where we got to pet tame Cheetahs, although they still looked as if they were eyeing us up!! We then travelled down to Spitso.... Something or other to camp in the shadow of these huge kopjes which we climbed up to the top of and you could get great views of the surrounding countryside from.
Then we arrived at Swakopmund the adrenalin capital of Namibia, its really German in design and a lot of people speak German here too. On the first day I waited 4 hours to go and do a skydive but the clouds came over and I couldn't do it in the end. The second day I went Sandboarding in the Dunes, this was amazing, can board for a little bit before falling over. Did some quite spectacular face plants into the sand though!!! All great fun though!!! Two of our group then skydived down next to our cars and the skydive guys took me over to the airfield where I did my skydive yesterday!!! Was one of the best things I have ever done. Got to see all of the dunes for miles around, reached speeds of 200 k/ph and dropping from 10,000ft!!! Still on such a high!!! We are going to leave Swako tomorrow and head south to explore some of the dunes before making our way to South Africa!!!
