After me being awake since midnight I was very keen to get up and going today. We left at approx 9am to start the day. We had bought a London Pass which means we can see multiple sights and things and use it to get in. So we are trying to do as many things as we can on it.
First stop was Madame Tussaud's. We mapped how to get there and found a bus literally outside our hotel room will take us straight there. I wanted to ride the double decker anyway! We got on, second floor right at the front. Seriously though, the bus drivers are crazy and look like they're going to crash into everything constantly. I was fake braking non stop!
We got off the bus, and the line for Madame Tussaud's was HUGE! We decided to still wait. Waited about ten mins and then Carlos thought he'd go ask someone about tickets and we realise we'd been in the wrong line! The whole time! :( it was for group visits. Anyway, went straight in and Carlos convinced me to get a pass for the London Eye as well (you get a good deal) this is however, something I may never forgive him for, but more on that later.
We went through, got the photos with the usual famous people but there are so many people wandering around it's a bit frustrating to even try get your pic. Some of them are amazing, some are not done as well or not what I believe they would look like. We then went to the marvel comic area, and saw a 4D movie which was kinda cool. We also went on some little taxi ride thing where it takes you through the history of England which was also not too bad. Overall I'm glad I did Madame Tussaud's but not sure id ever bother again. It's quite pricey 30 pound!! And once you've seen it I don't think you'd need to again. We then left and decided to go to the Tower of London. This time via the underground. It's amazing how good the underground is! Trains are so fast and come so often and connect so easily and are always relatively close to where you are trying to go. It amazes me. So we catch the train, have a little walk and arrive there. And it's the most fascinating huge castle! Like out of a fairy tale magazine. It's huge, and there is grass all around the outside where the moat used to be.
We decided to do a tour with a beefeater and I'm so glad we did, as cheesy as it was. He was so funny and taught you so much about what went on an the history of the castle. The history of everything is just so amazing. To think you're standing where kings and queens did hundreds and hundreds of years ago. The castle is huge, we walked all around it and went to see the Crown Jewels. All I can say is WOW. There is one sceptre and the diamond on it is the most pure in the world and is 527 carats or something. Like the size of the egg. My engagement ring doesn't look so huge now :(
After this, we went and took some pics of the Tower Bridge, which is actually probably one of my favourite things. I'm not even sure why, it's just so beautiful and looks so grand. I could have stared all day!
Outside the station near Madame Tussaud's was a place selling tickets to the Westend theatres so we decided we should book for a show Friday night. We decided on Lion King, got relatively cheap decent seats. So excited to finally see it!
We then thought we better get more value for our book and went to St Paul's Cathedral. Which is huge! The one in Melbourne pales in comparison. Btw on the way to the cathedral I needed to go to the loo so bad, found a loo and it cost me 50p to go to it!! Rip off merchants! And it was the dirtiest id been in so far! We only had 50p and we both needed to go, and Carlos being the good hubby let me go instead of him. He has not let me forget this however.
Anyway, we went inside the cathedral and the roof is huge! Looking up, is so amazing at all the artwork and the intricate detailing. You're not allowed to take photos which sux. Unfortunately because it's lent, there are daily services and we had come up too late so we couldn't have a proper look around.
I was so tired by this stage (since being up since midnight) we decided to head home. Got some dodgy gross fish and chips from the cafe up the st, I ate them and again passed out too early. Fail. I really suck at this travel and stay awake business.
